[URGENT] Car won't start and light on dash coming on

It was working perfectly last night, this morning I go to start it up and it just won't. The dash displayed this:

I have no idea what this is as my car didn't come with the handbook
(hopefully one will arrive tomorrow which I ordered).

I don't want to take it straight to Renault as they'll probably overcharge me for things which most likely don't need doing and if there's a way I can repair it myself or get it done cheap then that would be great.

I just need to know what the light means and why it won't start. :(

All help is appreciated!

this immobilises the car so you dont damage the engine. the fault maybe something stupid like sensor breaking down renault dealer may be the only way out m8 it will need the diag machine to scan for faults the orange box with zig zag through it is engine management light for renault you can try disconnect battery earth for 5 min as long as you know radio code. oh even more simple maybe flat battery.

Right the first problem is you need a clip computer to read that fault code unless its put the standard odbii fault light on? One in the bottom right shaped like an engine?

Trouble with a D4F is it could be a few things, not starting might be the tdc sensor but it could be the loom being chopped through by the anti tamper cover.

Needs the fault codes read really, you can guess and change things but it'd probably cost more than paying renault or a specialist with a clip to read them.

Ah I see, looks like I'll have to take it to Renault then. :(

Any idea how much it would cost? I know it'll depend on what the problem is, but a rough estimate?

Thanks for both your replies!

Edit: I think the light you mentioned above is on, yes. (One shaped like an engine)

What could this mean?

Does anyone else have an idea of what this could be? I replaced the battery with a BOSCH one costing me £50, still doesn't start the engine and the light in the first post is still on as well as the little engine shaped light on the bottom right of the dash.

check the relays in the box behind the n/s headlamp for any signs of water ingress , also as above post , but ideally needs clip test to check properly.

£50 for a battery.... Better off paying Renault an hours labour (£60 or so) and knowing for sure.

What's the loom? I looked in a little box on the engine and a few wires have been worn down, is it that? If so how much to repair?

Thanks for all the replies. :)

Id say Crank Sensor.

Think this is a TDC Sensor too.

Im saying this as we all have the same issues, and I had this one too - Can be cleaned but best to replace soon.

S

Ste 185

mine did it when i turned the engine off when i was still rolling then i locked the car and then unlocked it and then the car started.

Could this be the loom wire then?

I looked at it and found that the box to protect it had worn the wires down though the insulation etc. and they are now exposed.

Could it be just this preventing my car from starting?

Thanks

It was the TDC sensor mate. Just bought a new one with the new loom and fitted it myself (with help from my uncle) and away she went :)

Tbh though the light can mean anything to do with the sensors or electrics.

Thanks. I was going to check the loom going to my ecu to see if the wires had to been damaged. Do you need any tools to get access to the ecu on a 182?

Sounds like The TDC sensor to me. This happened to me a few weeks ago. Don't go to Renault you will be looking at close to 300 quid. Parts £50, fault finding is £75 the Labour on top @ 95/hr.

I am not a mechanic and changed the TDC sensor in under an hour its easy!
