URGENT! Does this sound feasible - earthing problem?

The bus has been at the Renault dealers for the past few days having "issues" dealt with and I've just been informed it's all ready for collection. I also asked what the problem was, and was told it was an issue with the earthing point near the driver's light.

The initial problem was that the driver's side xenon unit wasn't working: when on dipped beam only the passenger side lit up. But also, when main beam was flicked on the driver's side sidelight would go out, ALL driver's side indicators would come on, and the main beam/dipped beam on the drivers side wouldn't work!

I've been informed this was an earthing problem. Is this a feasible reason? I'm leaving to collect the car in 20 mins! Quick advice would be very much appreciated!

This is a possibiltity, it is worth checking around the earthing point to check that there is no signs of corrosion, as that can aslo be an issue.

One other thing it might be is the charge pack, if this is, it can be quite costly, and therefore the dealership may play hard to get. I would ask to see both lights working and aslo check that the auto light feature is still working as well. before you even leave the dealership.

Hope everything is ok.

Good luck.

Feasible, but cant say for sure without looking at the circuit. Was probably a wiring issue, something was not connected in right place, power was going to wrong parts. So it may well be earthing.

If the ground point was connected to another bulb it would probably have this effect, I guess it was down to some short circuit somewhere.

Cant help more than that mate.

Aye John, all warranty (still got 6 months to go fortunately). They've had the car since Monday 8am.

I'm intending going over the car very carefully before I drive it away - these problems surfaced AFTER it had been in at the same dealership the week before for an unrelated issue. They created more problems than it went in with .

Other thing being done is the headlamp washer jets have both been replaced as one was leaking (but from what I hear that's quite common..).

Just hope it's all sorted as my coilovers should hopefully arrive end of this week/start of next week :D

It won't be (too) slammed - I'll have the highest clio-on-coilovers on Cliosport I think! (need the clearance for MTBing). Aiming for the same height as I'm at with the Apex at the mo.

My shocks were on the way out anyway, so rather than shell out for a new set I'm paying the extra, selling the Apex springs and getting a new new set of Konigsports instead :)

sounds like a bad earth could be the cause of your problems as someone said it tends to show up with really odd syptoms

Cheers for the replies folks. Got my clio back (after returning their Modus courtsey car - did not enjoy) and everything seems to be in order. For the moment! I'll keep an eye on it and fingers crossed won't see another renault dealer, ever...

...and it's still working this morning! In some ways I'm amazed my car's still working after coming back from the dealer, hope I'm not speaking too soon...

Now to give it a proper caning on the way home later :)

BUGGER!

They didn't attach my front bumper properly following this work, bunch of idiots. I was on my way home today when I noticed a loud wind noise at about, ahem, 60mph - the front bumper hasn't been attached whatsoever where it meets the wing at the edge of the wheel arches, no screws where there should be. Bumper was hanging a bit loose. Going to try and fix it myself tomorrow as a really don't think the mechanics at the dealership are competent enough...

WHY CAN THINGS NOT BE FIXED RIGHT FIRST (OR EVEN THIRD) TIME!!!!!!!
