URGENT: How to restart with a flat battery?

  Mito Sportiva 135
Hi guys, I need some help urgently as meant to be driving back to Reading for work very soon. Basically, been cleaning my car with the radio on and lost track of time, and now the battery seems flat. The radio was still working before I turned it off so some life left, but when I used the central locking it sounded a bit hesistant. When I turned the key in the ignition it made the usual "click" sound.

I can't find my instrcution manual anywhere, and need to get moving soon. I have my mums car and some cables, but have been warned that Renaults aren't as simple as that to get moving, something to do with the immobiliser.

1000 rupees to any kind advice giver!

Cheers :star:

I dont know if a push start will work. It could be the best option as thats what my mates normally do with a flat batter but none of them have clios with immobilisers etc. You could try it and see if the immobiliser will allow it?

Leave the car 10 mins and try stating the car agin. The battery will recharge it self slightly allowing you to start the car. If the battery is totally flat youll need a jump start off another car.

Take the battery off and recharge, sorted! (remember radio code):)

Legends among men, glad it was the simple way, was getting worried I would have to disconnect the battery and reprogram codes.... cheers!

i think the only scare is unburnt fuel down the cat by bump starting, but even that is highly blown out of proportion.

I'm not disagreeing with you, but the Renault manual disagrees. It says to take the battery out of the other vehicle, fit the jumper leads between that battery and the battery in your Renault, then start the Renault.

What I've always done for cars is to connect the jumper leads, run the engine in the other car at a fast idle for a few minutes so it puts a bit of charge into the flat battery, then when you're sure there's enough in there that it can run by itself, start it up and immediately unhook the jumper leads.

I've push started my Ph-Quick before with no real difficulty, apart from getting out of breath :S
