Urgent Noise Diagnostic, Pleaaaaase.

  Mazda Mx5 + Clio 172
There's a horrid scraping noise, out of no where, from around the front right wheel. It only seems to happen on acceleration, up a hill and turning right. There was a loose bit of trim, but it wouldnt make such a loud scraping noise, which sounded more like metal on metal.
I got told that the drive shaft is worn but neither me nor the garage can remember which side it was so that could be nothing to do with that.
Idea's please?

The girlfriend tried driving it so I could look and listen from outside, I could hear it but couldn't see anything. She said it felt like it was stalling, and sounded similar. And she's only driven it a couple of times and even she could tell it'd lost power.
Help help help

Wheel off and look? Look for anything that's been rubbing there might be marks, look under the engine too especially around the belts (shouldn't be related to turning but worth checking)

Have you checked the bottom pully? If memory serves they are a floating bottom pulley and may be loose! Or perhaps a different pully etc? Is it the os driveshaft against the block? Has it's support bearing given up? A seized caliper? Mate it could be any one of numerous things! Has a garage looked at it?

Had wheel off, arch liner was loose so tied that up with cable tie, no visible marks to the wheel though whatsoever (which is prob a bad sign)

Is there an easy way to have a look at this pully cos i cant seem to see anything? Could the aux belt or pre tensioner make such a vile noise? Nope not been able to get to a garage yet, would like to take her to Birchwood but bit scared to drive it tbh

I've always taken my car to Twist Grip and Spanner in Milnsbridge. Knows his stuff and the prices are good...
I would expect a drive shaft to just let go one day rather than gradually. That's what happened to mine anyway.
If you need any faults reading I should be able do that for you if you need.

Is it bad that I live in Milnsbridge and dont know where Twist Grip n Spanner is! Cars not showing any fault lights which was what made me think it was loose trim, but sadly not!

Right been under again, rotated the wheel and can hear a distinct clicking from the shaft, underneath near the centre of the car, sounds like a bearing tbh. Can you just change the bearing or is it the whole shaft needs going

check that the cv boot clip has not popped off and is caught round the abs ring or lodged at the back of the hub, this happened to me and took me a few wheel on wheel off moments to notice it

Shall try that tommorow mate :) seems to be getting worse tho tbh :-/ noise on way home sounded like front wheels were gonna tear themselves apart. Grating and clunking like mad. Especially on turning and accelerating. I'm more than anything worried about driving It am I just making it worse? Can I risk driving it to the garage?

I think the bearing comes with the shaft mate. But if my old shaft is still at work then you can have the bearing off that if you like?
