urgent question...ahhh

my 182 is in at renault as the ESP is not working...

to fix this i apparently need an "airbag rotary switch" nice 156quid part...

how can the esp be affected by the airbag??

Someone will no doubt correct me if I am wrong, but..

The ESP needs to know where the front wheels are pointing before it calculates what corrective action to take.

I think the ESP sensor for steering position is located in the slip ring assembly just behind the steering wheel. This also has the contacts for the airbag and steering wheel controls. It is also known as the "capsule" or "rotary switch"

the steering rack/column and stuff was replaced however...could this have been damaged during replacement of these parts..?

or once one airbag goes, it buggers the rest of them

You are holding back on vital elements of the problem here, first post didnt say anything about airbags deploying, just that the car was in for an ESP fault. :banghead:

Cant really help if I dont know the full story...my ESP has also failed.

Ask the dealer to explain, in writing, exactly what they are taking your money for....:S

hey..sorry brian..thatnks for the info

yeah there was a big 20page thread somewhere bout it...

clipped a kerb, seat airbag deployed...

this is prob in the wrong section, sorry MODs...(shud be in mechanical)

No problem, just makes it easier if I have the full story.

I would still be inclined to say my first answer is probably correct as it would make sense, given they have replaced the steering column.
It is possible the capsule was damaged if the column came up with the impact.

Big bang then?

Did you find the other thread ?

Sounds like the sensors damaged could be when they changed the rack depends how they did it.

Thats sensor been known to fail before though.

Second hand froma breakers yard for undamed rack will be cheaper. Bit of a pain to fit but nothing shocking least the'll be no rust where the rack and the shaft meet up.
