How old is your car? Are you going to respray it anyway? Just asking because once you start doing that sort of stuff to it, the resale or trade in value goes through the floor. If it is old and you plan on driving it into the ground okay, but on a late model car you may regret it later on.

The resale value will only go down if you selling to your average enthusiast etc. It will go up slightly if you are selling boy racers etc.

My strips have been smoothed in, the filler will sag basically due to the english weather, as the filler will expand and retract when its hot or cold, but mine seemed to have done ok so far, if I had the money then lead filling is the way to do it.

ive just smoothed my door strips and its taken 2 solid days, its a long process to get it perfect and the whole lower section of my door is in filler, heres the process.

weld plates on each of the wholes. grind the welds back. fiberglass over the welds. put a spread over the strip section. then spread over the whole lower section as the welding would have distorted the door aswell as ittakes this space to lose the line of the strip

"welding would have distorted the door"

Weld oposite ends and only small lengths at a time. This way there will be no distortion at all. The steel only warps if too much heat is in one area. Low gauge steel should be welded in sections and allowed to cool (although dont do cold laps). I spent 2 yrs as a Qualified Specialist Welder and fabricator and this is the way I overcame heat distortion.
