v6 255

Picked up my V6 at the weekend. Absolutely made up with it. Can not believe the improvement over the original. Much improved handling, looks, and performance.

Anybody else owned both? If so what do you reckon to the 2 versions???

Great to hear we have another MK2 owner.

I hope to try a MK2 for a few days before deciding. I am a bit concerned that Renault have taken all the fun out of a real drivers car, and left us with a soft comfy hatch that goes broom, broom.

Stop worrying James. Read EVOs Car of the year awards 2003.:D

I had another 330 cabrio on order, read that article and canceled the BMW. And I certainly dont regret it.

I will let you know how I get on Simo. I wouldnt be swayed by anything EVO tells me though. I was driving while most of them were still in nappies, and I will give my unbribed opinions.
I just need to find a dealer other than my regular one to lend me a V6. ( they know I drive over 140 too often )

Clio v6 was your Mark 1 left as standard or did you modify it any way to address its handling and performance issues?

I have done various things to my Mark 1 which has changed it out of all recognition from what it was like when I picked it up 12 months ago - from a handling perspective.

Is the Mark 2 more predictable when transitioning from under to oversteer? Can you catch and then hold any slide with relative ease? Is the turn in an order of magnitude better than the Mark 1?

Sorry for all the questions but...I am now at a crossroads trying to decide whether to sell my Mark 1 and get a Mark 2 or to go to the next level with the modifications; looking at various head/breathing and other mods to up the power to 280ish and replacing the rear subframe.

JJ172, not a lot really but it is running on KW variant 3 adj coilovers which made the most significant difference with new geometry dialled in as well. I run different tyres on the front which also help with the turn in and quells some of the aquaplaning you get with the Pilot Sports. I run different tyre pressures all round (approx +10% over what Renault say although I do alter that depending on what I am I doing).

The car also has a Piper Cross Evolution IK which souds nice and definitely improves breathing above 4000rpm and mixes nicely with a custom made stainless exhaust from Quicksilver which is more free flowing than the original but is very, very loud.

Just started working with a fabrication company to produce designs to replace the current engine covers with something lighter and easier to see through and working on reducing weight in other areas. The one thing you can definitely say about Clio v6s is that they are too heavy and desparately need a session on Celebrity Fit Club :)

Jay172, BenR and others quite rightly point out the numerous "characteristics" and compromises of the Mark 1 that mean that it is inherently flawed particularly in the handling department. I have changed some things and that has made the car a lot better, particularly at or near the limit where the gap between this is a laugh and why am I in a potatoe field pointing backwards is now a lot wider than it used to be.

Problem is, its like what I said before that I now need to decide to go the whole way and really go down the full modification route or do I go to the Mark 2 so I am looking forward to hearing more from Clio v6.

Cheers

Back on topicish. Could someone measure the clearance from ground to front bumper on a MK2 please.

Many thanks.

Mine is 70 mm

I looks about 100mm (ish) on mine, Im still sat at work so I cant see exactly. Sorry mate.

Although I seem to remember reading on here something about 120mm, either way speed bumps are an absolute terror.
