V6 belt change cost

Just done a search but its come up with loads of 172s...

How much do people charge?

That hurt. Trouble is, as the lump's out it's easier/cheaper to replace bits than hope they make the 10 year service...

Trouble is, with the greatest of respect, that's the bare minimum. While you're in there, is the clutch going to see another 5 years? Nah. Plugs? Well, the thing's out now so may as well. Air filter etc is on the other service I'm assuming?

It's not as cheap an affair as people try to make out, but if you just want to change the belts then it's not 'that' bad...

We do not need to remove the engine to change the belts, we have also changed alot of V6 clutches recently (again without having to remove the engine) so it may be the case that this does not need doing.

At least it is a starting point, it is always better to start off with a base cost and work it up to include anything else that might need doing rather than over quoting.

Most definitely! And I'm not saying it's wrong to offer that starting point, but at the same time trying to be realistic for Ste in that it's not just about what the starting point is...

As for not needing to take it out, well - maybe you guys employ gynaecologists but I couldn't get Weeman's dick in there, let alone enough hands to change a belt!

If you kow what you are doing changing the belts and clutch can easily be done with the engine in the car and this helps keep the labour costs down.

Aye, fair enough. However with the engine still in he probably wouldn't have spied half the little 'issues' he did and had fixed...

Indeed. And I think 15 hours labour is very conservative, given that it was on the ramp for nearly a week (no rush to get it done - told him to take his time!) and every time I spoke to him he was in/under/on it...

Just like to add to this as well (yawn!)...

When does coolant need flushing?
When does brake fluid need flushing?
When does PAS fluid need flushing?
When does box oil need replacing?

Before 10 years? Sod it, economies of scale and all that - bite the bullet and get it all sorted in one slightly more economical go...

Absolutely, no point in struggling when dropping the lot out would be so much easier.
