V6 Decat

  V6 Mk1/Beat/E320/Mcoupe
Hi,

Correct me if I'm wrong.

The V6 has 6 cats. 1 on each down pipe, and one big one before the muffler. I have already taken out the main cat before the muffler. The engine light has not come on because there are not sensors after that cat. Now I want to replace the two downpipes with straight pipes to take out the other two cats.

Here is the question. There should be sensors before and after those cats that cause the engine light to come on. Do both downpipes have sensors? If so, there are a total of 4 sensors?

When I make the straight pipe, should I make 2 holes on each downpipe so that I can plug the sensors back in or just plug the sensors before the cat in and leave the second sensor just hanging outside.

Can wait til I fully decat this car, must sound great!!!

Thanks for any help.

Bob

  Forester Sti, SC Clio V6,
Just leave the sensors out and stick a bit of tape over the annoying light on the dash!

But plug in the sensors before the cats right?

Oh no, not this conversation again! ;)

There are 3 cats. Two on downpipes (small pre-cats) and one large post-cat where the 2 exits link together before going to the silencer.

Unless you are planning to chip the car, there aren't many gains to be had from decatting the car, considering the effort of getting to the cats.

I've not been able to 'solve' the issue with the lambda sensors and the dash light, it'll always come on when the emissions are reading wrong. You'll just have to live with it or put alot of effort into getting a light to do off....you could just cut the circut to the light lol.

And there are 2 cats on a MK2, one on each downpipe, and a lambda before and after each cat, where the 2 join is just a silencer type thing i think as there are no lambdas after that section.

I am talking about a MK1. Where are the cats located on the MK1's and how many cats are there? Is it like what I described on the above post?

Do the sensors before the cats HAVE to be plugged in?

Thanks

sensors before supply the ECU with closed loop information....they HAVE to be plugged in. It will be the second sensors that are causing the light to come on.

So I can just leave the second sensors hanging outside or make a hole to plug them back in and it'll be the same?

But am I correct as to where the cats are on the Mk1 v6 though? One on each downpipe and then one sensor before and one after each cat which makes a total of 4 sensors.

Thank you

Mike,

I am planning to chip the car, but dont know how I can achieve that since I am in Hong Kong. Most of you with chips bring your car in to tune right? Is there a chip for the V6 that is just a plug and play?

Thanks,

Bob

i have de catted v6 and my light is allways on and my car seems sometimes a trouble to start too, must be something to do with de catting it cos i have had it checked and its fine, ticks over for ages and i need to rev it too, only some starts that is, if i been drivving it or ragging it and turn it off and on again its fine, just from a cold start
