V6 orange emissions light

Orange emissions light came on this morning ... after Id be stopping and starting the car being a dick about where to park in a (terrifying) multi-storey car park. Car was and is running fine.

Sat at Inchape in Soton now until they can look at this PM. Hopefully a few minutes with Clip will show up what it thinks is wrong.

However, as ever interested in second opinions/experience on what might be up with it? Does coil problem affect 255?

Sounds like you gassed up the car to me and as a result it triggered off your emissions sensor. could any one of a hundred things though....

Ive been having a recurring problem with the emission light on my mk1, which was as a result of original cat being cracked, causing breakdown of other cats, replacement cat fitted turned out to be faulty, plus compounded by failed/failing coils.

Touch wood, I think it just *might* be sorted now...

Theyve reset it with the Clip and all seems fine and dandy. Fingers crossed. Even when it was on the car was running fine so think it just got its knickers in a twist where it was stopped and started three times in reasonably quick succession. Hopefully wont be a recurring issue

fingers crossed she will be fine now your probably right shes just letting you know shes very displeased with you switching her on and off like that, at least she gave you a 1st warning the orange light.. if it was a real woman you would have had the red light and total shut down for weeks !!!!

Thought that latest update was for Mk1s only to fix the issue when the aircon was on?

My Mk2 is post- the ECU update and so had already had that one done.

Mk1 only thatll include me then................does anybody know exactly what its for and I assume its free yeah?

Im told its only free if your car is still under Renault warranty otherwise you have to pay for it. Its supposed to sort out cutting out, and jerkiness at low revs when the a/cs on.

Im planning on having mine done when its next in for a service.

BTW, if the emissions light does come on, you can switch it off yourself by disconnecting the battery for 30 secs or so, though the fault is still stored for when its next hooked up to a clip.

& yes the car will continue to run fine, but if its anything like mine, the light may come back on in a few hundred miles time, and it shouldnt be ignored or you could be facing a hefty bill for damaged CATs!

Ive been finding out quite a lot about that little yellow light over the last few months.... & if it comes on again..... Ill not be responsible for my actions!

Hmmm ... so now my cruise control isnt work at all. It was yesterday since I flicked the switch on as part of my DIY tests ahead of the car going to the garage. Now nothing happens ... doesnt show the cruise control / limiter light at all when set.

Either an unfortunately timed case of 182-style cruise control switch failure ... or have they done something when tinkering with the Clip :(

Worried the orange light is back on again too ... did 120 miles this morning with everything running beautifully. Arrived at my destination and parked. Turned off ignition ... turned it back on to close the passenger window and hmmm bloody light is staying on again :( Didnt fire it up so well see if starting the engine clears it, but usually is goes out at a similar time to the airbag light.

Feel a trip to see Mikey172 to show it some more care ASAP.

It does stay on until you fire up the engine, as does the ABS and some of the other lights...
Thanks!!

My paranoia level is rising ... so of course I was too paranoid to try restarting the engine (which had just finished 120 mile thrashing) to see if the orange light Im paranoid about was going to go out

Roll on 5:30 when I can start my journey home and hopefully my paranoia level can be reset ;)

Hmmm ... back on again  Car still running fine. Different conditions this time. Car was started after being parked for 3.5 hours. Hadnt been trashed either since I was reserved on the way to work too.

Also cant get it looked at for ages by Mike172s garage (15/8) However Id rather Mikey had it since then I can be comfortable that its get cared for and theyll get to the bottom of things rather than simply resetting it again and giving the car back.

Will ensure that Mike gives the exhaust system a good look over for leaks etc..

Dunno where your based Andy, but either ClarkieV6 in Exmouth or Scotty6r4 in Chippenham would be well worth talking to about this problem, as between them they have spent hours & hours of mulling over potential causes of the problem, trying this, that and the other to get my car sorted, and even if you cant get the car to either of them to look at, they might be able to give you some pointers of the best place to start looking at!

Ive managed 1050 "orange light free" miles since Scott last had it, so Im trying not to tempt fate here, but Im getting increasingly confident that its sorted on mine now, but before that it had been ongoing for about 3 months (and 6 visits to various garages) of trial & error in attempting to diagnose the fault...

Mine kept coming on at about 1800-2000 rpm, specifically at about 40-50mph in a high gear, after running the car at a higher speed immediately before, and just like you, it continued to run fine despite the light showing.

Good luck -hope they nail it quickly - as i say Alex & Scott have had plenty of practice at this, so may be the best point of contact in trying to sort yours out!

All sorted :D As ever I was able to benefit from Mikey172s excellent workmanship ... a stress free experience and the positive outcome I was hoping for.

From the man himself ... "the fault was an open circuit to the fuel canister purge solenoid ... I didnt need to replace the solenoid as it was down to the connector itself ... was just a matter of making good connections and securing the connector to the solenoid".

Makes a huge difference not having to worry when your car is in the garage - that is not going to get treated badly, that it wont be thrashed, that the work will be done properly and completely.

Soon I wont be able to benefit from having Mikey as my personal RTE for warranty work at my dealer :( However, from what Ive heard we will all be able to benefit from his new "business venture" :D (*hope his boss isnt reading this* Mikes own garage with full dealer diag kit and his significant Renault experience without the dealer prices ;))

Thanks Mike and looking forward to the new venture :D
