V6 Owners look in...

Just after some general feedback on the V6 really...

  • Do you find them a hassle to drive around town daily? Reason i ask is because i often find myself diving through tight gaps in traffic in the 172, and obviously the V6 is a much wider car.
  • Do you have parking problems? ie: turning circles, tight spaces, opening doors etc?
  • Whats your average MPG
  • Your favourite thing about the V6 experience?
  • Any regrets after buying it, however small?
  • Do you want to swap yours for my 172? (you gotta try)
Thanks. Lets not turn this into a riot please :)

any replies appreciated.

I'm interested in how wide a v6 is compared to a normal clio (I know the mk2 vee is 1830mm across the mirrors as I have the brochure) what I wanna know is if it'll go down my drive way, my current car is 1768mm.

-fub's sorry for the hi jack.

Do you find them a hassle to drive around town daily?
- The mirror width is the same as a 172/182 so unless you go around hitting those you'll have no problem
Do you have parking problems? ie: turning circles, tight spaces, opening doors etc?
- The turning circle is embarassing
Whats your average MPG ?
- 24 on a motorway, 20 everywhere else
Your favourite thing about the V6 experience?
- The noise, the experience, the feeling that it's very special
Any regrets after buying it, however small?
- Luggage space very tight, space under front bonnet not watertight and gets hot, the turning circle, having to be very careful so as to not scrape the front bumper
Do you want to swap yours for my 172? No thanks

^^^ Honestely for you!

Would love a V6, but i think i'll stick with my 182 for a while..

-> As per Jeremy it's the same width, I find after a while I run out of energy to depress the cluch when stuck in heavy traffic.

Do you have parking problems? ie: turning circles, tight spaces, opening doors etc?
-> After 4 years of ownership I still often fail to reverse park 1st time, still this is more opportunity for people to see the car and for me to blip the throttle. The extra width of the doors is something you should take into consideration when parking close to other cars / objects.

Whats your average MPG
-> 18mpg around town, 28mpg on motorway.

Your favourite thing about the V6 experience?
-> The noise and the smile I get everytime I open my garage door.

Any regrets after buying it, however small?
-> None at all, although I'd like a bigger fuel tank.

Do you want to swap yours for my 172? (you gotta try)
- > Not a chance, this is a keeper.

[*]Do you find them a hassle to drive around town daily? Reason i ask is because i often find myself diving through tight gaps in traffic in the 172, and obviously the V6 is a much wider car.

I care more for my V6 than I did for my 172, therefore I find myself driving quite sensibly around town

[*]Do you have parking problems? ie: turning circles, tight spaces, opening doors etc?

For parking turning circles are not a problem as I tend to park 10 feet away from the kerb anyway, but are a joke when you have to go round a small roundabout, you just wouldn't do it because it is quite embarrasing.
I hate people parking next to me as sometimes they are careless and can cause damage when opening their doors, B#st#rds.

[*]Whats your average MPG

20.2mpg thats with motorway and town driving

[*]Your favourite thing about the V6 experience?

Fab engine Noise, the looks and attention it attracts.

[*]Any regrets after buying it, however small?

None at all, best car purchase ever, if i were to buy an M3/Porsche i would prob wanna keep the v6 in my collection

[*]Do you want to swap yours for my 172? (you gotta try)
yeah right! I am actually selling mine as I am leaving the country :-( , but who knows may take it with me.

Surely if you drive it gently you'd get a better mpg. I so want one. So on avg do you get voer 200miles to a tank?

  E90
Cups faster, dont get one. ;) I'd give a testicle for a V6 after jeremy took me for a wee spin in his round Spa

  Clio v6
I followed a 'drives like a granny' friend up the M1 and recorded just over 30 mpg.

So it is possible, but I wouldn't make a habit of it.

How much does it cost to fill the tank ??

The V6 has a 13.4 gallon tank, which if memory serves right is about the same as other clios. So it should cost the same, just go less distance.

My only concern with the size of the tank is having to really think about where/when you're going to have to fill up or suffer the consequences of running dry when you're having fun.

As you well know, I love my Vee Fudgey :D.

Picked it up a year ago yesterday ... which means you've completed a year of 172 ownership too :).

heh, yeah Andy, you have ;)

i posted it on here, then remembered there was the proper place, so posted it there too :D

  V6 Mk1/Beat/E320/Mcoupe
- its not actually that much wider, though it does make a difference
- turning cycle really sucks, dont even wanna talk about it, door does need to be opened pretty wide, cuz they are really thick, often hit the car next to it
- in the city, mpg is bad
- the driving experience is great though, very special car

Are they both the same width across the mirrors (mk1 & 2) ??
Are the mirrors the widest point of the car ?? (in the mk2 brochure its measured that it is)

The car is only 6cm wider than my coupe, that too has a pretty bad turnnig circle. Just wondering how much worse the v6 is tbh.

Parking isn't a prolem for me as I always use two spaces, or park out of the way (or use the parent & kid ones)

I'm getting ideas myself now ;)

Same width and the mirrors are the widest point.

The turning circle is dreadful.

Nothing to be concerned about. The turning circle certainly adds to the experience, but it's not difficult to get used to ;).

Normal car parks are fine ... you end up taking a couple of bites to get into a space (even when reversing in) but so what. When turning out of a tight junction you need to be careful that you don't swing into the on-coming lane whilst also keeping an eye in your mirror to ensure that you don't turn too early and clip the kerb with your expensive alloys. However, tight parallel parking ... you're having a giraffe :rasp:. If you do get in, you'll crunch your alloys getting out again unless you park 30 cms from the kerb. And multi-storeys ...

Every day I reverse my Vee round onto a tight shared drive, then onto my drive, and then past my missus' wide 7 seater and into my garage. So once you're used to the turning circle it becomes second nature.

Indeed, you soon work out how to do 9 point turns and based on your first (and probably last) experience of doing one, you start to think about where's a sensible place to turn around, do a u-turn, whether it's sensible to take a mini-roundabout etc. If you don't learn this, you'd better learn various "Thank you", "Much Obliged" gestures for the other drivers who are held up whilst you maneuver, I recommend combining mock embarrasment with a combination of sending the signal "you'd like to drive my car too", works a treat for me.

The turning circle is part of the experience, it's a talking point :)

Exactly right. You only look a t**t once with a 7-point turn.

Next question, who do you get to service it ?
Can Renault themselves actually be trusted on a v6 (my local main dealer, renault romford is good on my dads 172, but its not a vee is it !;) )

Also I know a couple of people on here have/had the same car as me (Tom a dude with a yellow mk2 v6 is one, dunno his forum name though) the other is rennie, he's got both cars but never really on here.

How does the v6 compare turning circle wise ? Is it much worse ?

Do you find them a hassle to drive around town daily?
No, I drive mine into London at least 2-3 days a week, sit in heavy traffic on M1 and London, and it is always a pleasure, never ever a hassle

Reason i ask is because i often find myself diving through tight gaps in traffic in the 172, and obviously the V6 is a much wider car.
As JT says, unless you smash your mirrors off currently, why would you start in a V6?

Do you have parking problems? ie: turning circles, tight spaces, opening doors etc?
Of course I have parking problems, I'm female !!!! Actually what is embarassing is the fact that I am female, and it is a b*****d to park because of the turning circle (not existing that is!) and I am convinced people think "look at that stupid female, got a fast car and can't even park it" plus I am not very tall, and the side skirts are quite wide, so I need to be able to open the door wider in order to get out - but I love it anyway.

Whats your average MPG
24 with lots of motorway, 21 ish rest of the time

Your favourite thing about the V6 experience?
The Vee in it's entirity!!! it's wonderful, magnificent, fabulous, attention-seeking, attention-grabbing.
Any regrets after buying it, however small?
None, never, ever - would I have another one - yes, I would replace this one with a new one if I could when it's time to replace it.

Do you want to swap yours for my 172? (you gotta try)
No ta, been there, done that, got the t-shirt !!!!

Bump.

I fail to understand why everyone with vee's are not able to get up into the low 30's on the mpg front?? i've managed it on at least two occasions, once in the Mk1 and once in the Black Mk2:S

Too many leaded boots about maybe;)

will you get yours serviced at renault steve ?
I'd be looking at a mk1 in a few months (if i was to go for one) I love the mk2 but don't have the £££'s yet.

  An orange one
as said already you get used to the turning circle in a few days..i struggle to acchieve 25mpg and average is about 22ish...

i cant get more than £43 in my tank till its brimmed..does the mk1 have a smaller tank???

get a viper and a k-tec exhaust on it and you'll cream your pants!! :D:D

are renault ok to service a v6 clio ???
having read that they get most other ar*e about face, will they be ok with a v6 ??
or is it best off getting a specialist to do it ?

  Renault ChaVio
I use mine in London everyday and I have absolutely no complaints with it. Was driving a Lotus before this and that was a bit of a challenge as an everyday driver – the Vee is a far better compromise of driver's car/commuter. Actually a very practical car by comparison. It is easy to get in and out of, has a great suspension set up that is firm but somehow very good over London's awful roads (pot holes, speedhumps etc.), maintainence is cheap too for such an animal of a car. It's as comfortable as the Clio you have now with much better acceleration, handling, grip, steering and noise. The car also gets attention wherever it goes.

I'm getting about 17 mpg from mine. You're never going to win on economy with a proper performance car unless you go for a lightweight special like a Lotus or Caterham. The Renault servicing helps balance this cost out though.

I particularly love getting the back end of mine out on the way to work and harrasing serious kit. Funny how people either assume it won't cut it as it is a Clio or discount it because they have heard some misguided report that they don't handle. I've had a Griffith 500 driver tell me he couldn't keep up, a 996 driver say something similar, a 997 let me past after I stuck to his arse through a corner he was at his (personal) limit on, an Aston that couldn't shake me off...

The car is f**king brilliant fun. They cost f**k all money for what you actually get.
