V6 Tailgate...

Just called my local car repair to check on progress on my 182... They just told me that they sprayed the tailgate and just realised that it's for the V6

Fair to say i'm not a happy chap as its been there for almost 2 weeks!!!

What is the difference between the 182 and V6 tailgate? I'm guessing its the badges etc...

i'm guessing its to do with the position of the struts/mounts.

wont make that much of a difference surely? thought the struts were the difference (ie shorter) not the tailgate?

Tailgates are the same 2001-2006

The V6 has shorter boot struts so the boot doesn't open very high so it doesn't foul the larger v6 spoiler, a 182 has longer struts as the spoiler isn't as large

Sounds like they've made an arse of something and they're trying to put the blame on you

I will call them today about the matter. I'm not getting charged for it as it's all covered under my insurance and another drivers fault.

I'm guessing they can change the struts easy, and all that is needed is to put on the correct badges as its not a Vee...

Fred, these are the people I called you about last week, the ones that were charging me silly amounts for the mirror to be resprayed... Seems to me like they are a bunch of monkies... It would be nice if they could drop the charge of the mirror spray as a gesture... something tells me they will say no lol.

If I didn't have to get up so early for work, travel long distance, and get home late then would pop over there and talk face to face with the manager. I will tell them that the tailgate is the same and just to change the struts... I think they are saying this BS as they haven't even started the job or forgot to order the tailgate in the first place.

The manager said they had sprayed up the "V6" tailgate and then realised it was wrong... pffft...

what colour is the car? they "should" be painting it on the car, so would've fitted it already IMO

if its a new tailgate it will be painted off the car.

if your rear quarters are damaged too, then the inner tailgate will be panted off the car, the tailgate would be fitted, then the back end would be sprayed as normal

Fred, Its Richmonds car repair service in Redditch. I only went with them becasue they were recomended with the insurance company and I'm off to America this weekend so didn't want to faff around with going through payments and details for a non-recomended body shop... I wish I did now

They said my 182 was the older model and they had another version... Blah... I hate sorting things out over the phone, can't book any time off work as I'm off to America... The colour is Gold Black. I'm calling them today again, IF its not ready this afternoon I'm holding onto the courtisy car for another week and half whilst i'm away. They get penalty fee's for poor turnover times and courtisy cars beeing late...

Fred, will PM you my reg. If you could get me the correct part number I will see what one they ordered before... AS stated above, I think they are covering their own back for a mistake non-related to the tailgate! We shall see...

Oh, and the manager was in a meeting when he was meant to call me back... Typical! The lad on reception said that the issue was not V6 related, instead they had the wrong phase of car... I'm no expert in CS's but don't all 182's use the same tailgate?? Even 172's?

I have a feeling that they cocked up on the colour... You always know when something is wrong as they keep quiet about the progress, only tell you there is a problem when you call them, and always change the information they give you!

Anywho. Fingers crossed! I will be super critical when I evaluate the work they have done!

Well... got her back and not 100% happy...

As you can see, the tail-pipes are not sitting nice so I have had words with them. Also, I noticed that either side of the tailgate there is a big'ish gap between the light and tailgate... This was never like it before. Is it just me? The picture is hard to tell, but when the light catches it, you can just see right into it

Also. when you open the boot, the stuts don't fully dampen the tailgate. It will bang against the hinge and stopper part (my technical terms for these parts are shocking and poor sorry) My old car would open nicely and the dampers (Stuts) would stop the tailgate from hitting the hinge...

Am I beeing too picky?? I dont want the hinge to get fatigue after a year lol.

ok, what was the damage, whats been repaired, whats been replaced, and post up a pic of the light on the other side.

Has the bumper been painted? It has terrible orange peel.....

Damage was to the tailgate and lower bumper.

Both were replaced so both sprayed... And yes, It does look a bit orange. I haven't had much time to look at it in the sun.

The tailgate looks the same from the other side, so its not off centre... I just remember my previous tailgate had a nice snug fit between the lights.
