What did they do to level out of the gulf in performance? Make the VXR tow a caravan?
i know. but big bhp carries you past ever hardening aerodynamic forces once past 100mph. so yea it will rape in accelaration (sigh is that all people care about, what about noise and other sensory goodies that come with a highly tunne rear engine 2 seater V6) but 217bhp isnt much when you want to go from 100-155.Quote: Originally posted by Jeremy Townsend on 26 October 2004
You need to read the article. The VXR has 217hp v 255hp, yet 235hp per tonne v the V6s 180hp per tonne. However the V6 comes out on top....
Exactly Mike, depends what you are after. These are two completely different cars aimed a two completely different segments of the market so what the hell is this review trying to prove?Quote: Originally posted by telford_mike on 26 October 2004
I actively considered the VX220 turbo (yes I drove it on a track etc) before buying my V6. Straight-line stats do not tell the whole story. It depends what youre after, particularly if its an everyday car.
I agree theyre in completely different market sectors. I think the banner headline on the mag reads "The wildest way to spend £30k". I guess youd have to include an Evo 8 to justify that headline too.Quote: Originally posted by Toypop on 26 October 2004

The VXR should be compared with the Elise/Exige/Caterham etc. The V6 has absolutely no place in that company. It should be compared with the 350z etc.
They want to properly push their weekend toy to the limits. thats just not possible on the road, so why not get a proper track prepared car and get the ultimate driving experience? (without mowing down small childeren, old ladies, big trees, goats etc)Quote: Originally posted by cliotuRS on 26 October 2004
why do people pay sooo much money for a car that will do little else than perform well on a track ?!? people who buy the V6 use that as their number1 car and not have a need for another. people who own elise,caterham,vx220,atom etc.. all have other large comfy cars. madness. spend the money on an very good allrounder rather than a 1hit wonder thats so expensive you cant afford anything else.

anyways. the VX220 is well cheap second hand and hasnt kept its value aswell as an elise. my m8 just bought a lt edition 150bhp vx220 with 4k on the clock one year old for 17k !!.
ohh and they look like lego cars IMO. the v6 looks better and so does an elise although neither have the goodies and comfort of the V6.
still that review does sound a load of b****cks. id still rather have a V6 even a mk1.

so would they, the V6 won

Yeah but why dont you just get a basic 1.2 Fiesta?
Maybe its just the way my mind works but if I had a V6 and I saw someone else with a VX I would feel inferior because deep down I would know their car is quicker than mine even though on public roads neither one will be going quicker than the other.
1. Because the V6 255 is one of the best looking cars on the road for £25k.
2. I do see 220s around and dont feel at all inferior, although I might if I only had a 182.....
