valetters put scratches in my bonnet

Had my car valetted today, was meant to be a good place too. Car is gleaming, smells nice inside the car and the paint work is like glass still, until you look at the bonnet. Theres about 3 swirling scratches in the paint work, theyre denying they did it, but Ive never seen them before and the cars not even a month old yet!!! Also noticed a slight dent in the front of the bonnet too. So p*ssed off, I dunno what to do. Will it be under my dealers warrenty? Its only something you can see when you look at it from a certain angle but now I know its there its sticking out like a sore thumb :(

just take it back to them , and politely say that the car is under a month old, etc, and that this must be them, and you would like them to put it right, if not just tell all new customers as they come in, that they scratched your car. They will soon be willing to help you!

If you took it Renault asking for warranty work they would just laugh at you. If you are polite about when you call them up, they SHOULD help you out, if not, BRUN is right, Trading Standards is the way to go.

Personally, I wouldnt/dont let anyone wash my car

I said the same to my local dealer and the tw*ts still washed it and still put a scratch on it, but cant I prove it was done then even tho I know it was!

My 172 was mark free until Sutton Park Renault decided to wash it after they had done some work on it. I picked it up, then on the way home stopped for petrol, under the forecourt lights it looked like someone had ice skated on my roof!!

hmmm,

it may not have been them? Think about it, theyve washed the whole car and yet only 3 swirl marks on the bonnet? Wouldnt u have marks all over if this was the case?
Another thing to bear in mind is that if it is, as u say, totally gleaming, maybe youve only just spotted them as the car is so clean they stand out more?

Course there is always the chance they have done it, totally no way youll prove it tho :(

Deffo Scratches? you cant T-Cut them out?

You need to kick up a stink as SOON as possible or they are going to claim it was nothing to do with them. Make sure you get Piccies as well.

If they ignore you etc or refuse to accept responsibility then you will need to take it further. Lawyers Letter can usually grease the wheels of compensation, abit of Bad Press works just as well so contact/threaten to contact the local paper with dire warnings of "Cowboy" Valetting services.

I noticed more scratches on it earlier on. Must be about 6 of them all near at the top of the bonnet. Got no way to prove it was them though, so just gonna have to find a way to get them out without causing more damage. Theres a few on the windsreen too but theyre not that bad. Got any suggestions for getting the scratches out? Theyre not deep, so maybe tcut or something?

You say the car is less than a month old, isnt the paint just a little bit new to be getting polished etc? A good wash and a chamois would prob have done it just as well?

And as most of the others say, you shouldnt trust anyone else to wash your car.

NEVER T-CUT A NEW CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

T cut does exactly what it says on the tin CUTS!!!!!!

T cut eats the laquer layoer off of the paint and it will end up shagging the paint work!

Try using something like Mer scratch remover for modern cars or the TTurtle wax scratch remover for modern cars, NEVER NEVER USE T-CUT unless its on an old car or a heap of sh*t!, neither of which is your clio!

If you are that bothered about it then take it to a specalist and let them polish the scratches out, if they f**k it up then its deffo their fault!

my car got scratched twice in the first 3 week of getting it coz the treads in the tyres through out so much sh*t at high speed corners it peppers the bodywork, and mud flaps would look sh*t so have to live with it

Looking at it from a different perspective, are you completely sure the dent/scratches werent there before?. After my car had been polished and waxed, I noticed some small dents/scratches that I hadnt seen before, highlighted by the high reflection of the paintwork once waxed etc.

I would have sworn blind they werent there before, but no way did I dent my car whilst washing it!!

Maybe the scratches and dent were already there but were concealed by dirt, perhaps the valeters are so thorough that their cleaning has removed this and they show up.

Personally I would have thought that had the valeters noticed the scratches that they would have filled them with some special glaze that hides any marks.

you can buy products that temporarily fill scratches

Clearkote Vanilla Moose and Meguiars NXT are 2 such products, i own both and are both very easy to use

you can get either from

Cheers all. Im sure the scratches and dent wasnt there before as its a car thats only 3 1/2 weeks old from new. Doubt theyd be on before I bought the car, would they?

I got some of that turtlewax scratch stuff, will try it tomorrow

Just a bit about the Renault dealers...if and when I take mine in I will say these words to the SERVICE MANAGER:-

"I do not wish my car to be washed. If it IS washed against my wishes, I shall hold you responsible for all blemishes, marks and scratches in the paintwork and will take appropriate action. Do you still wish to undertake the service work I require?"

Jeez I might even request they sign a document stating the above!

Just because a car is brand new doesnt mean to say that it is scratch or dent free. A good friend of ours is a sales manager at a Vauxhall dealership and very often cars delivered to them, have to have complete panels resprayed or dents removed before the customer sees the car. They sometimes have to have new bumpers or valances as they too get damaged during delivery or off-loading. Maybe the scratches were there, but were filled to conceal them and to be honest, your car is far too new to be given the valeting treatment.

probably, but not if they knew what they were doing, which should be to only use a wax on such a new car and not any kind of abrasive product

Ta GirlRacer, you could be right. Dont know what happens in the background at a dealer as its the first time Ive ever been to one. It was really just a clean all over, wax and a hoover they did while I was just down the road, dont think they did the full works on it. Thats all they charged me for anyway

Never ever let anyone wash ur car! If u scratch the car it is your fault and washing it can also be stress free (see previous posts!)

Reno put a dent in my bonnet a couple of years back when I had my 1st Cup. It looked like someone had pushed the bonnet shut instead of letting it drop, which left a wee blemish in a certain light, just above the bonnet catch. I knew it wasnt me, took it back to the service manager and it was fixed by dent master at Renos expense.
