Valver advice

  The Jinx

Im thinking of getting one, but I know there is a problem with rust on the rear end.

Now to the bigger problem. I live next to a m-way, and the car park gets a lot of spray kicked up which obviously conatins a lot of salt. Even in this summers dry weather a lot of dust gets dropped on the cars.

So, is this going to be a problem? Are there any protective measures/treatments that can be applied to the car to inhibit the rust?

The arches rust from the inside where the rustproofing was not applied in the factory, or gets in between the inner and outer arch panels at the rear wheelarch lips. Not much can be done really except for a really good replacement of the entire rear arch, which is expensive!

Dont let that put you off as it happens to all cars and all the other aspects to owning a Valver will give you a grin that has to be surgically removed!

Is there no way of getting some treatment in between the panels?

And is this the only area where rust is problem on valvers?

More or less the only area they rust (along with the boot), although unloved ones might see a bit on the door bottoms and around the rear windows.

Thatsgood then. If the bubbling occurs does it mean that its likely to be much worse underneath? And do you know what the remedy is for a small patch appearing?

Where does it occur on the boot?

Sorry about all the questions but this could be the deciding factor on whether I go for a valver or a much newer Xsara VTS (for about the same price)

Ive never heard of anything but cosmetic rust on a Mk1 Clio. The rust will be inside the boot lid along the bottom (if at all) and can be stopped with some Kurust. Most Mk1s tend to be about 97%+ perfect in terms of cosmetics.

To be honest, it depends on how fussed you are. I take pride in having all my car being perfect, so a little bubble would be done straight away. In most cases it just tends to be mildly annoying, slow to spread and in any case pretty invisible.

I wouldnt got for a Xsara if I had the choice. Yes, itll be newer - but the thrills will be less and youll have a harder time selling it on.

No rusty arches or boot for me but like Ben said Ive got a slight bubble forming at the bottom of the drivers door pillar - easily sorted!

Bloody salt and gritters are annoying me at the moment - im doing alot of late night (4am) early morning runs and my alloys are f**ked at the moment!

Pro clean to the rescue soon methinks....

if you pull the rear interior panels off (under the rear windows) you will see the rear arches & can spray some treatment there....i used waxoil

Ive just been told about Waxoyl, and it sounds like a good preventative measure to take. Cheers for informing us of the access point though. Im noting all this down. Does that get between the inner and outer arches?
