valver or willy

im having thoughts about a track car and was wondering which is best to have, a valver or a willy?

is there any diff, if so whats the main diffs?

besides striping it out totally inside (like the banana) and bigger brakes what else could i do to help speed on the track?

pms and emails (inc pics if u have any) to mailto:richard.travis@tesco.net">richard.travis@tesco.net welcome

thanks
richard

For the money, is a willy really that much better than a valver?

Lets say circa £4,500 for a Willy and circa £2,000 for a very tidy valver.

Is it worth the extra £2,000 as a track car? As a road car, with status and class perhaps, but effectively youre paying an extra £2,000 for the wider track and torque basically - do I have that right?

If you stuff it into something, is it going to be cheaper to repair a valver than a willy. Moreover, if you crash a williams at £4,500 and a classic, wont you feel worse and lost more money than "just" a valver?

For me:

Willy as a road car
Valver as a track car

  The Jinx

As a track car get the valver and then uprate the front track to willy spec for a couple of hundred notes. On a lot of tracks its the braking and handling that counts for most.

Yea, for a track car, Id get a 16v, coilovers, Williams/Megane conversion, strip it out etc.. I wouldnt get a Williams for use just on a track.

You can get cheap Williams I got mine for not much more than a valver would cost and it has most of the track day modifications you could want.
However if ou can get a chep valver for under £500 with 6 months MOT IMO Id be tempted by that least then you can write it off if/when you crash it.

Brakes an supension are the biggest things on the track power isnt as big an issu. Youve seen the brakes on my car and thats when they werent assisted there even better now there working fully on the track.

mine is a track car, run another car for work and the williams as a toy,

didnt have a problem pulling in the valvers at ty croes, overtook most and was pulling danny in easy enough and his is a quick en!

btw mien is totally stripped now with bucket seats and running 4pots and uprated springs up front, std height and 200lb or 165 lb choice is mine! have cat back system and decat thats it and was lots of fun chasing caterhams!

ive just got a 2litre hybrid valver for £2600, that has the shorter 1.8 16v gearbox, better for acceleration, 16v manifold, better for power? i duno i just know its better and the car had fukll custom leather, AVO coilovers, ferodo front pads, exhaust, decat, ITG, all in good condition for 2.6k is a bargain!

If i were you id try and source a cheap hybrid with 1.8 box and manifold to give slightly quicker acceleration, strip it out, cage it, coilovers, wind it down some and get some decent brake pads and sme large discs! sorted!
