i have a few steering related probs that i need fixing but want a bit of advice before i go and order parts i dont need. first up is the PAS pump how hard is this to change barring in mind im a mechanic and have access to tools and ramp etc.it works but is noisy and im guessing an additive wont cure this. it looks a tight squeeze to get to but just looking for any tips etc to make it easier??
secondly i have a knock in a certain position of the steering wheel, ie if u hold the wheel straight and move it a bit to the left it knocks, now before i go an order a new steering rack i heard that the U/joint is behind this and all u need to do is weld it? is this correct? also got told it would cure the play in the steering??
any help or tips would be great as u can guess im not looking forward to doing this as autodata quotes is 4.5 hours to do the pump and bout the same to do the rack.
