valver vs 106 gti

  colt mirage..valver soon!
which would you think would be quicker, since i sold my valver ive been in a mates 106 gti and it feels slightly quicker... any one help me on this one?

the main reason behind this is that we both take our cars on the smeatharpe old airfield with taunton motorsport club, and have a bit of fun testing the cars ability. As im missing the valver ive sold my bmw to buy another and have spare cash to do as i wish. any advise apprieciated thanx

This question has been asked & covered about 100 times tbh - i'm not being funny buy you are best off using the search facility:) the other question is valver v's saxo vts. I used to own a valver & my mate had a 106 gti.

the time it took you to write that you could have answered the question!!

iv had both, and i would say the gti is slightly quicker.

they run out of puff at 90 tho.

The handling is excellent on the gti too! The clio is good, but not as good IMO

Valver looks better, but Pug would have the edge from 0-100.

Get a Williams.

  R5gtt, 182, volvo...
my 16v good but wouldn't stand a chance on the twisty bits against my old 106 rallye.. thats one special car on the bends and i will be turbocharging one in the future if i get the chance.. that said coilovers are but a credit card swipe away..

raced quite a few....mostly in the willy tho tbh.

and mostly craggys old vts that i was racing....his was an absolute flier...14.5 1/4 s in near std trim ........

with a good driver behind the wheel, there wasnt a rite lot in it either down the straights..or thru the twisties, altho the willy seemed to have the edge on the twisties......jus seemed more capable to swallow the corners up n spit em out behind it, whereas the vts seemed to savour the bends a bit before despatchin with em......if u know wot i mean....lol

on that parkers website it says that the valver is quicker. 0-60 in the valver is 7.7 and the pug 8.4 somethink? i take it thats wrong then? :approve:

take those figures with a pinch of salt mate.............mine runs 0-60 in high 5s low 6s...and craggys was right there at the side of me all the way from 0-140 ish.....lol

theres some freakily fast uns out there.

The pug is quicker but a willy will cost loads to look after...

ian

Willy's dont cost a lot to look after, as long as you dont take it to a Renault dealer! Dont believe the ones that say they are a money pit, do you're homework and buy a good one and it shouldnt cause you problems. Renault cost a lot for servicing / repairs as they wont do any engine work without removing it first!

^^^^^^^^^ well said.

a bit of homework b4 u buy can save u £000's in the long run.

mine stands me at bout 9k....thats including buying the car..and all the mods iv done previously, diff block/head/box etc. and thats in 5 years ownership...and its had a very hard life under my ownership. lol

The 106 will be slightly quicker than the 1.8 16v but the 2.0 16v lumps will be a different story, both tried and tested.

When i first converted my 1.8 i was still running 17's but i still had the a slight edge on a standard 106 (never got the chance when i was on 15's). Deffinatly find a good Williams if you can find some extra funds.

Neither of my engines seriously troubled me in 2 years of ownership tbh.

I had s**t loads of probs with my Williams... speaking to Mehdi last night and it wasn't £8k I spent on repairs... it was £10.5k and about another £2-3k on mods... oops! So this being a worst case scenario you pay your money and take you chances. Shame as it was soo much fun and the shell was uber mint, just had countless mechanical problems and some foolish decisions on where to take it... dont use your local garage, if you get one find a specialist that knows what the score is and wont dry bum you on labour.

what do u have a valver or a gti? a freind of mine has a 106 1.3i rallye and he reckons is is as fast as the gti, with a few mods but personally i smell bullsh*t comming from his mouth and i just wna get a valver to shut him up

Lol, and it was you who said I mustve had a shitter a week or so ago in another thread!!! ;)

In 2 years of owning mine, usuall oil/filter change costs aside, my problems cosited of the following;

Sunroof motor broke......Cost £25 to sort iirc.

Clifford immob fell out of syncro with the standard immob. Car wouldnt start cause and cost £170 odd quid as Renault were the only puppets who could sort it.

Then gearbox went a few month later but for a car that had done 92k at the time i dont think that was too bad. Promted me to convert the car to a low milaged 2.0 16v and within the 8 months i had it i can sfely say nothing, yes nothing went wrong with that engine!!!

Maybe i just got lucky!? :S

lol..williams mate..

book figures around 7 secs iirc...like i say mines hi 5 s lo 6s.....so id say the rest of the figures will vary quite a bit too.

din t mean to confuse u thinkin i had a pug/paxo lol.

Jay, I said it must have been a shitter in the sense that you say your 182 is faster than your hybrid, as 9 times out of 10 the hybrid will pish all over a Mk2 of any kind.

Mechanically mine was the shittest full stop, only thing that didn't go was the head, but to be fair i had relatively few problems with it once the new engine was in and the cams. It seemed to like them better as other bits around stopped braking as much lol.

Still, 2.0 Mk1 should easily pull from a Suxo or Pug, there's only Craggy's that you'd have to worry about, but then 14.5's are nothing special by todays standards...
