Valver vs Golf gti

My mate has bought a mk4 golf gti (1.8t) and thinks its faster than my valver.

Does anyone have the performance figures of the golf, I know they are 150bhp but not sure about 0-60 times and top end.

yeah, golf is too heavy. If it was a done up Mk1 of Mk2 golf, id say different!

Think the 0-60 is around 7.5 on them, and as far as i know the valver is 7.2. If he still thinks otherwise remind hes bought a car thats built by the company that was the automotive backbone of the third reich.

Had a little fling with a V6 Emotion on the weekend with the inevitable outcome! nice car just a little on the plump side!

EVO quoted 7.8 seconds, dont forget its got a whole load of torque from 1850 rpm



My experience says even stevens upto the ton when golf will pull away!

I would expect the valver will win comfortably

the valver book fig is 7.7 (standard car) most most can do it in less than that,

you will p*ss on ith golf easily mate !
the v5 golf (with the red 5) with 170bhp only does it in 7.5 secs.

the best way to find out if to go & have it with it on a private run way of course
you will be yery surprised, but you mate will be shocked !!!
(he will then sell the golf & buy a faster car)

... also autocar ran a valver about 12years ago & it did it 7.1 secs.

tuning on the VAG 1.8t engine is awesome... on the 180bhp engines a £500 remap will get you 230bhp.... you wouldnt get that on a valver..

i think you can go to about 350bhp with no internal mods.

(im assuming its the same engine as the TT, A3, octavia VRS etc)

but yeah its a heavier car, i would have thought it was slower in standard trim.

i think the golf is a much nicer car than the valver all round though.

and with turbo upgrade youre looking at 340-350bhp for £2900...

not gonna see that on a valver!

well said mate... when there is 0.4 sec in it (according to book figures) its going to be anyones... will depend on driver, how much tread on tyres etc....

i hate it when people compare book figures like that and actually think it makes any sense!
