Valvers.

I've been looking and see them up for around 1.5-2k in the main, do they actually fetch that sort of money?

They're older, french, and nothing special really.. why?

ps. i still want one.

It's because they are still wanted & sought after, so people will pay the money for them. As for not being special, i'm not sure where that comment comes from tbh :S

It's a bit like the majority of hot hatches of the 90's tbh. Look at the price of escort & fiesta rs turbo's & 205 gti's & the like, decent examples of those still sell well:)

Going back to the 80's hot hatches, people still pay the money for renault 5 gt turbo's & series 1 rst's etc.

It's just the way it is.

But surely they are only in such demand now because so many chavs ruined them by doing "s1k" mods and stupid conversions? Basically ruining the stock that was available. And they aren't exactly special. End of the day they are a FPOS, full of rot and only a 1.8i 16v running 137bhp.

How you could then go on to compare them to turbo'd classics such as the Ford RSTs, R5 GTT or even the N/A 205 GTi (1.9 only as the 1.6 suck) is beyond me. They are in completely different leagues.

I can understand the Williams being able to pull an overly inflated price but over £1k for a 1.8 16v rot box, come off it.

Fair enough supply and demand but surely people must be slightly perturbed about spending near on £2k for a 15 year old car with moon mileage?

As much as I'd like a Valver I wouldn't pay more then £700 for one because they just aren't worth it, even if it was "mint".

That's just the way it is, tbf.

As Ian said they are not all rotters, there are still a few very nice examples out theres.

Your comments (which I've highlighted) make no sense either, how are erst's & frst's any good as standard ?? They are the cars that are rusty sh*tters ! Even 'minters' up for 4k are mainly poo - I know as I looked at a load a few years ago.
As standard the erst & frst are slow and handle quite badly, the brakes are well known for being shoddy too (brakes from an xr3i on the erst any one ??)

The Fiesta rs1800 was totally pee'd on by the clio 16v way back in 1992, I even had an upto date test when I had my clio 16v a few years ago (my mate had the ford) It was no where near as good as the clio.

The r5 gtt as standard is a 'pocket rocket' but they are very tin can like (same said mate I mentioned earlier on had one)

As for the 1.9 gti, actually the 1.6 is regarded as a better drivers car out of the two & many prefer the 1.6 I've been in both versions of the pug.

As for " As much as I'd like a Valver I wouldn't pay more then £700 for one because they just aren't worth it, even if it was "mint". "

Each to their own & all that - but at the end of the day, the good examples of valvers do fetch over a grand, the better ones even over two grand, tha's the way it is.

Like you said, you wouldn't pay over £700 for one, and you will get a sh!t rust bucket with moon mileage for that. Pay the 1.5-2K mark and you will get a mint restored car with alot of history. These mint cars are rare and that is why you pay the premium. Supply and Demand.

3.5k.. for a ~10 year old car? :/

Yeh had under 30k on the clocks and was totally mint! Owned by an old couple for 13 years or so ;)

Sill, a lot of money for an older car..

I dunno... lol.

As for the not spesh comment.. well they're not are they? A williams holding its value I understand.. a valver.. I don't get?

I'm not causing a mass fall out or disputing that your car may or may not be worth 3.5k or whatever.. just a random wondering I had lol.

The valver was the renault 5 gt turbo's successor, until the Williams came along (an example in todays terms would be the 182 & 197)

And as for getting a valver for £700, what a load of old b****cks. I reckon you could get a reasonable one for £1500-2k.

Mmmmm was £3.5k all day long.

  Clio Williams & 182
the cheaper ones seem to be diminishing in numbers due to people buying and breaking them.

Apart from mine, I have only seen 2 Williams near me in several years of keeping my eye out for them, so they are getting rare.

Also, they are good fun cars, with some serious performance. They were made at a stage just before the heavier less fun hot hatches started to appear, so still make good performance bargains, and they still look good imo!

I bought mine for a paltry £740, and now after sorting out minor issues and rust is worth just over a grand. I'd only sell if I had a serious cash flow problem.

I thought you wanted a mini the other day Hayley. If you want to start getting into cars and doing your own servicing you are better off with a mini. Cambelts are the devils own invention.

Anyway, I'd probably pay £1k for a decent valver, it's like any older car though. Back when I lived at home etc I could spend a weeks wages and hours trying to get a duff car working well, these days i just don't have the time, money or patience to be messing around with a car that starts giving me jip. Unless the car is mint and owned by someone off here or some other owners club who knows what they are doing and when it needs servicing I wouldn't be chucking £3k or more at one.

A F7P/F7R is not a user friendly bay. Even the most simple tasks are arduous. Like oil change, gear box fluid..... Big engine and tiny bay is not a good combo.

This is what I was thinking, a mini with a ohv engine would be a better bet if you want to get into doing your own work on it. I used to strip engines out of morris minors, heralds and cortinas. I could do one in about 4 hrs and thats with rusted bolts but they are simple engines and everything is easy to get to infact on a herald you can sit on the front wheel while you work on the engine, I wouldn't want to attempt a cambelt change on any clio.

When I first bought my clio I took one look in the engine bay and thought, yhea, I think I'll leave that well alone.
