Variable Valve Timing

  RB182cup&golf gti

Could somebody please explain the variable valve timing in the 172/182 etc. Ive noticed in mine that theres a kick at 2.5k and one at 5.5k but i believe this has nothing to do with valve timing, the 5.5k to do with coming on cam (whatever that means!!)

(I have searched for this, probably not very well, unable to find a topic)

Cheers

Try the search again.

Your correct the VVT is only used for idle, and the power kick is due to it coming on cam.

Definition: A method that advances or retards camshaft timing to improve engine performance. A hydraulic mechanism on the cam drive uses oil pressure to rotate the cams position slightly as engine speed changes. This increases valve duration to produce more horsepower at higher rpms.
