*Very* loud valver steering

Power steering is extremely loud can hear it outside the car like 10m away! This is when its not moving and you turn the wheels! Is the pump on the way out or should I just drain the steering fluid, use some forte and renew it?

How long do they last from making a loud noise to breaking completely? Also if it goes will I still have manual steering or none at all?
