Vibration through steering wheel

  R26
I just want to start by saying that I have searched for the symptoms, I just can't find anything similar. Sorry if I missed anything though!

On the way home today I noticed a small but constant vibration in my steering wheel while taking a gentle right hand bend at approx 40mph. I had two oher people in the car and the road had been newly re-surfaced (not sure if that makes a difference). I also noticed it again when accelerating from 30 to 50 (not that hard) on a crap road surface (looked like the road had started to melt!). The thing is they were within approx 2 miles of each other at the beginning of the journey and I did not notice anything for the remaining 20 miles home (mostly single carriage way).

On searching topics lots of people have said it is probably a wheel bearing, but surely that would be a constant noise/vibration and not what I experienced?

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers

could come from loose wheel nuts, the bearings, loose hub nut, could just be tracking.. or as you said could just be the road surface!

Get it on axle stands and whip the front wheels off. have a shake of the discs, if they rattle check your hub nuts are tight. If they are tight and there is still a lot of play then it is probable that the bearing is fecked! but remember there will be a little play even if they are new!

  182... again!
Sounds like the road surface to me, especially if it's a one off. Worth checking nothings loose though for peace of mind...wheel balancing is another possibility!

Just got back in.

I've had the car up and the bearing, nuts and hub nut all seem to be fine on the front left (the loaded wheel when it vibrated). Also took it for a run on some bits of by-pass (get some speed quickly - 60mph of course) and some twisty country lanes. Haven't been able to get it to vibrate again, but have discovered I need to put some air in my tyres!

Cheers for the help as always and if anyone else has any ideas let me know!

Have you ever check your tyres if there is any damaged??? If you hit a hole or something like that, your tyres may have damaged, just like when our human head got hit, something will come out.

Also, if you have any wheel adaptor/ring (for wheel hub size changing), make sure it is secure well. I had an experience of steering wheel vibration because of this. You will get higher vibration for front than rear.

Sorry for English is not very good.
