Any of you guys know about video cameras/ camcorders?? as in whats good at the moment,
what sort is best to get?

The mother-in-law to be, wants to get us a video cam for a present, but i havn't got a clue what sorts are good now a days,.
I've had a brief look at one of the ones that write directly to mini dvd's which was pretty good.

Anyone got any advice..

The ones that record directly to dvd aren't as good as the mini dv cams . Plus you'll most likely want to edit the footage afterwards and remove all the rubbish so its better recording to mini dvd tape and editing on your pc .

I have a canon mv750i . I got it from pixmania . Things to look for are does it have firewire , what optical zoom it has , anything over 20x is good , ignore what digital zoom is as its the optical zoom thats the important one. Other things to look for is does it have AV in as well AV as out , then you could copy old vhs tapes onto the camcorder .

Batteries are usually very expensive so go for aftermarket batteries not the manufacturers batteries as they can be had for up 25% of the price .

Alot of the time they dont come with a bag , you could haggle this on the deal .Mine also has an sd card so it can be used as a stand alone camera .

nice.. thanks for that mate..
Had just been looking on currys site to see what sort of things are around.. probably have around £350 for one.
There is one on there with a HDD (supposedly hold upto 25 hours of video - on crapest quailty) but then i suppose you may run out of space with that and not be able to put new minidv's in.

How much video can a minidv hold?
