for editing adobe suite are pretty high on the list.
adobe premiere and adobe after effects 2 are the choice of many. depends on what your doing, those work weel for mpeg2 etc and digital video editing / converting

adobe premier is good, and easy to use.
Avid is more of a professional choice though, but it's a pain in the arse to use at times! I'd go premier if you're a noob
