viewing multiple desktops - Network Administrators

I am used to using ARD3, it's great, even works with windows. I can view multiple user desktops on the same screen.

What do you guys use as network administrators to view peoples desktops?

rdp it works well but tbh why do you want to be "viewing" peoples desktops

I don't personally, one of the line managers has requested it, I am fully against it, however it has been overuled.

but rdp wont work if he doesnt want them to know that he is watching

Legal issues sorted according to line managers. I have written a letter stating I would set it up however I am not responsible and neither will I be supporting it.

RDP will kick the user off. VNC is great, but want something more along the lines of ARD.

Sometimes I hate IT.

I did not know about all this remote user stuff untill at my last job; my wacom pad was knackerd also ie kept crashing so I called the techs, they said someone will be up later but after 10 minutes the cursor was moving around on my desktop, minimising windows etc, I figured I had a virus but I suppose they wanted a fresh screen, I was like WTF and started typing in note pad ' Who the f**k is using my machine??!!' The cursor stopped hovering around for a bit and then I got 'yeah your machines got a fault? I'm sorting it ffs'
Hahaha. I was laughing my tit's off..... I'm easily pleased.

I use ultra VNC. Basically I can assist any machine in the office.

in my old job i used to use remote assistance, but give up on that.

RDP kicks the user off.

With ARD I can scan the whole network and look at 10 machines if I want.

Just wanted the same with a windows application.

I do leave the tick box checked to ask the local user for permission for me to "jump" on so they know it's being viewed.

When he was accessing my machine I had complete control still, it was like I was trying to fight the cursor. I just thought it was the Wacom screwing with the standard mouse socket, I was even able to open notepad.
I had emails open that could be read and everything, definately made me wonder who was watching.

I'd do it, as you said you never made the descision. Can't really see a need for it if you've properly locked down workstations in the first place.

It depends what you mean in regards to locked down.

I truly believe in leaving people to do their thing, the obvious things are locked down, but not many websites or applications are.

It's more to do with work performance.....

i work in aschool and we use software called Lanschool to make sure thr kids aren't messing about (not that they can lol)

we can also specify which applications they can't use for that particular lesson

Altiris Carbon Copy is also an option....

VNC for the quick and dirty fix.

Lanschool is well good, this is the same as ARD3 but for windows, but somehow dont think I can use this for work, unless a floor could be a classroom

I use Dameware... I don't prompt users when I connect to their machines, whereas others do and others have to be granted permission to connect. Great software.

I use vnc at my work to access users systems. We don't log on unless they request our help though.

Having said that if we did log on they wouldn't know.
