Virginmedia Broadband problems *HELP*

  Tungy
This problem has been occuring for a few months now. I keep losing my connection to the internet. Sometimes it will last a few ghours without problems, sometimes within minutes it dies.

I then have to unplug the modem (and sometimes the router) and replug the power lead back in a few seconds or more later. Then wait for it to conenct up again. Sometiems this take multiple removals of the power lead. It is happening all the time and pissing me off.

In my connection properties it says the network could not assign a network address or something when the conenction goes down.

Anyone had this problem before? I'm stumped.

Brad

yep, had similar prob where it was disconnecting & reconnecting constantly. think it was my zone alarm firewall that was causing it. I changed some settings on the firewall & its been ok since.

Is your router definitely ok ? When it goes down next, make sure you can connect to your router ok, as that might be where the fault lies :)

Cheers mate I'll give that okay. Pretty sure router is okay, but I'll have a look. Don't know anything about these sort of things.

I have spoken to Virgin about a problem i did have with my modem. The guy told me that the modem hadnt been discconected for over 365 days. I knew i had unplugged it and plugged it back in again, so i thought he was bullshitting... He then told me it doesnt register their end, unless it is unplugged for more then 12 hours.

SO i unplugged my modem and router over night. Plugged it all back in the next day - and no problems what so ever. So give that ago...

Hope that helped...

Matt

I had that one and i had the same probs as u are having now, i phoned them up a few times... and eventually drilled it into their heads my modem was dodgy, then the engineer brought one of those new little blue NTL:250 one's and its been fine since, well upto the virgin takeover, getting slower every week but to be expected. The engineering also said that the silver modem's sometimes didnt take to the upgrades very well and sometimes start doing this, and that he had changed loads of them.

There is nothing negative about that. It is positive that only 1 centre is in India with the vast majority been in this country (teesside, swansea, wythenshaw, sheffield, dumfries and others I cant think of right now)

I have an english friend called Mohammed - lying git, he must be called Bill ffs

Just because they are in India doesnt mean you are guarenteed bad servie. I have spoke to good/bad Indian servie and good/bad english service. Some English people have really strong accents making it hard to understand them. Can you discriminate just because of the region in England they come from?

If you have had bad service then put it in writing either by post or email as this is the only way you will help any company realise their mistakes.

All I am saying is you cant automatically guarentee bad service as you are calling a centre in India. Like it or not, lot of companies will continue to use them as they are cheaper which means customers end up getting better deals and since staff turnover in english call centres is so high it is hard for companies to train people if they are going to leave the job in a few months.
