vista and ram query

Guy i just installed vista.

In the biod it lists my Ram correctly, 4gig. however in vista it says i only have 3gig....any ideas at all? i've tried reseating it. But bios displays it fine.....dunno what to do tbh/

if you use xp remember to use the 3gig switch too (dont think its needed in vista tho)

Vista 32bit/x86 does indeed support more than "3.25" and Vista Ultimate x86 will support up to 32gig from memory.

but 32 bit limit is 2 to the power of 32 or 4,294,967,296 bytes

Using Vista he probably will!!!

I'm running ultimate x64 and that uses well over a gig running nothing more than Outlook, Firefox and Remote Desktop!

Copying and installing takes forever. At least it's stable.

I'm off Vista for the time being and back on XP, Vista just did my nut in. With my external HDD attached it took ages to boot, no problem with XP, my DVB Tuner didn't work, no problem in XP, games either didn't run or ran but then crashed half way through, no problem in XP, I could go on.

A lot of the games out there haven't been designed for Vista.

You can also run apps in XP mode if you didn't already know that.

If you don't have a high spec machine, it's never going to work properly.

actually i'm finding vista is great. e6600 4g ram, 8600gt oc gcard. everything runs smooth and haven't had any glitches at all. world or warcaft looks awesome...and well....what else do you need!? lol

I'm glad its ok for you! just dont use it in a business environment and don't get me started with office 2007!

I've got a new flaptop from work yesterday with 1GB ram, it's using about 850 with my apps open, so caning it like fook!

Ordered 2 x 2GB for it, should be here tomorrow.

Because at the time new dell machines came with it! now they give you the option to select XP aswell.

/3GB has nothing to do with this. That switch relates to virtual memory addressable by user mode processes.

There's no images ready for them yet as they're a new release (HP 6710b's) we create our own images and i'm the first to get one in.

Never using Dell again after I bought 4 x 2850's and 2 of them didn't work

2850's?.... erm we use Optiplex machines or Precisions.... or if it's laptops then latitudes... either way, none have model numbers like that.
