Vista Final and MSN Messenger

  Revels Mum & Sister
Installed Vista Final the other day with the Serial Number from Work we got for being a MS Partnet.

ALl went fine, I installed MSN Messenger 7.5, then Live 8.0 and Live 8.1 Beta.

EVERYTIME it refuses to connect with the error unable to connect due to firewall settings, disabled Windows Firewall and Even as a test forwarded EVERY port to the local IP being used and same thing

Anyone got this installed and having this problem?

Fooks sake

Griff what version of MSN u running? And I assume you have Final not that it should matter. This is ultimate as well!

What router are you using fella?

I assume you only have specific ports you need forwarded? Nothing else special on there.

Is very weird and I can understand why its doing it!

Beta 2/RC 1 are NOT worth bothering with. We have had al releases come through work and th Final build is FAR more featured and stable then the Beta 2/RC1 build plus it has more of the features implemented

Running Vista Business ( Full Release ) here with Messenger 8.1 Beta with no problems.

Windows Firewall is turned off too.

Does it say anything in the event viewer?

Nope checked there not a Sausage. I just the an error from MN and when googled it relates to Firewall settings but I know it isnt that plus the Normal XP install on the same box works fine on MSN.

Something weird there!

Workd fine with me too on Vista Ultimate, dont quite understand why you downloaded version 7 though? There is a download Messenger Icon in the start bar, this downloaded Live 8.1 Beta?

All sorted now. Updated Router Firmware and Pop up it came, also updated NIC driver as Marvell Yukon drivers had some problems.

I downloaded Live Messenger 8.0 and 8.1 and tried them and to rule anything else out I tried 7.5 as a last ditch attempt.

Anyone it was a Netgear DG834G V2, seeing as LOTS of people have this router this may be an issue when it hits the shelf.

I installed 3.01.25 and it now connects fine, I dont know if this is Vista finding a weakness with the Netgear or Vice Versa.

End of Jan I believe, not sure what versions though as there are A LOT of different ones LOL.

Home Basic
Home Premium
Ultimate
Business

Think thats it of the top of my head!

  Better than yours. C*nt.
I hope they've sorted out their hunger for power - I lose 10-15fps in FSX on Vista RC1 as opposed to XP... (Microsoft take weeks to send us the latest updates for it!!)

It's possible that there is an issue with the uPnP side of things in Vista or on your Router. I know my Zoom X-4 hates uPnP fullstop - XP can't arrange ports for it and when I tried SBS2003 it just moaned and moaned. When I can be bothered it's going in the bin!
