Vista installation randomness.....

Erm, WTF?

Got a clean RAID0 setup with Windows XP on another RAID0. Chucks the DVD in to install Vista 64 Ultimate and goes through the prompts. Blue screens after a few mins and then rebots.

Wipe the RAID0 again and go for round 2 (I know that this mobo & Vista doesn't need drivers for the RAID). Get's way past that point and then complete locks. Hard reset time.

Try attempt three and it gets nowhere - literally locking up as the small scrolling Microsoft screen comes up.

Go to try it again tonight - everything works perfectly. Nothing changed, nothing removed - it just works? :S

Hmmmmmm.....

gotta love computers, which mobo out of interest? My EVGA 680i has been a pain and i can't wait to get a new setup when I decide to go for one, it just doesn't seem worth doing it at the moment (Quad > i7)

Hopefully not, m8! Mine is a 750w unit - with a wattage in usage display on the rear. It's yet to pass 300w from what I've seen - even when under load on 3DMark2006.

That's not to say that a single rail isn't being overloaded though. I've tried to spread out the load evenly, as best I can...

  • 1 rail for 2 SATA HDDs
  • 1 rail for 2 more SATA HDDs
  • 1 rail for the SATA DVD-RW + X-Fi drive bay power
  • 1 rail for the 4870 gfx
Once installed, Vista never skips a beat? Just on the install itself - very weird!
