my internet screen on my sony vaio seems to have been blown up so icon size is massive and can only display part of screen on say this website...

Does the taskbar fit on the screen? (ie. can you see the start button and the clock?) if you can, it's nothing major.

In internet explorer what % have you got the zoom on? (bottom right) should be 100%

Oh! 800x600 is no good then, you want something like 1280x768

Vista can and does do this sometimes when coming out of hibernation. If you had been using hibernate then I'd say there's your answer.
