Void Insurance

  BMW Z4
Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone has had an insurance policy made void before if so what do you do now and how long has it been?

  Mk4 Mondeo Estate
If you have had insurance cancelled then you will probably struggle to get insured again. Well at least struggle with cheap insurance

  BMW Z4
But does it stay with you for the rest of your life?

Its ridiculous that a drink driver or someone committing a speeding offence (a potentially life threatening action) can be cleared within 5 years?

i had an air filter and my wheels powdercoated black, I was at work and my car was parked on my street. My mum was in and a tourist knocked on the door he crashed into my car and accepted full responsibbility but he was going back to the airport en route. The insurance didnt pay out and voided my insurance cause they wernt declared.

That was over 2 years ago now and have been paying roughly £70 a month TPFT ever since (Im 22 this month) now looking to get something a little more luxurious i.e BMW/Audi/Mercedes but just wondering if there is anyway to 'clear youre name' as people grow up and accept what they have done paying 2 years of high premiums for something i didnt really do but i have accepted it. It is also stopping me getting insured on a business van for my work and basically becoming a joke.

Any help would be great.

There's the first problem :) may look as if I'm on a high horse, but really the mods weren't down to you?

Ive never known an insurance policy become void for powder coated wheels lol.

An air filter maybe, but why didn't you just re install the standard air box?

Something you're not telling us here me thinks

Are you sure your high permiums are because of your policy being void?

£70 a month isn't crazy for someone at 22. Guys on here pay 2 grand to insure £1000 Clios!

Just a thought.

Woa something wrong here?

Someone crashed into the OPs car, and they the TP insurer didn't pay out because of undeclared mods on the OPs policy? I smell fish.

Not quite. He went through his own insurance. The TP insurer makes no comment on mods and also will never contact another insurance company if they can avoid it.

70 quid a month on a 172 at your age is a good price. Going off what some people pay on here it is very good!

I only have a 1.2 so £70 a month third party fire and theft at 22 is quite high.
Yes it is the reason its high and i cant get a quote from some people
That is the full story. I have black powedercoated wheels and an air filter 'performance enhancing mods' was what was stated from my insurer at the time.
I know people will tell me its my fault maybe it is but i personally think ive paid for my mistakes and its time to move on but no one can give me a straight answer as to how long it is on me for some people say surely 5 years max and others say its with you for life.

So is there a way to clear my name? or any way around it?

This may not be the right thing to say but what if he just didnt tell them ? If the insurance had to be used would they be able to see that far back ?

Half the story here I think,

My R32 didn't have the exhaust declared, had a Miltek on, and was fine when crashed into

Things you're doing wrong:

Interest rates on insurance policies are currently massive in general, so per month may be £70 but the policy may only be £500 originally.
TPFT is not actually always cheaper (personally in my case it pretty much never is). It was cheaper to be FC on my first 172
Postcodes dictate insurance massively, insurance is on the rise and 22 isn't exactly old.. have you tried a quote without declaring this?

Finally, what are you actually declaring? I'm confused.

When I've got insurance they've never asked me if I've not managed to get a payout or whatever?

Crazy.

You need to learn what specialists are, that or go standard. IME companies on comparison sites load premiums massively for mods.

For a 1.2 Clio? Are you actually on medication? Seriously.

The mind boggles.

Oh and i've no idea if the earlier poster who suggested not mentioning it was joking or not. I really hope he is.

I didnt mean for him not to tell them , i was just wondering if the insurers can see your history that far back ?

Its the 'have you ever had an insurance policy cancelled or restrictions imposed?' question that he is having to say yes to.

something doesn't add up here!

There is an increase (with the amount of saxos being sold lol) of older people driving modded cars, lexarse lights, exhaust alloys, etc etc... bet they dont declare it or have issues in claim.

  Lunar Mk1 & Flamer
your right i dont...

but i do know one older gent who owns a 106 with an exhaust and lexus lights... who was convinced i was a standard car.. so would assume he has insured it as that?

The only thing I can say is it differs from insurer to insurer I can't say anymore than that, otherwise the chav brigade wouldn't declare anything.

It's a risk you take. You knew you should have insured the changes and you didn't bother.

As for how long you have to declare it, by the looks of things it's indefinitely. But you need to ask someone who knows what they're talking about. Not just people guessing on a forum.

well most companys ask for accidents or convictions in the last 5 years some 3 years, or is voiding a insurance policy more serious?
