VR6 Golf vs 16v Mk111 Golf?

Just wondering, apart from engine sound and about 20 horse power if there is much difference is these cars, speed wise

Only wondering as the 16v's are well cheap compared to some VR6's,

Would the extra bhp and worse fuel consumption be worth it for the VR6

Comparing similar cars about p-reg.

Any views welcome

The vr6 is quite a bit quicker once rolling due to the V6,petrol is shocking though.The mk3 is a bit chunky and could of done with more power.
If it was me i'd take my budget and go backwards to find a minter of the old school...

go for a late mK2 J plate with a good vr conversion by someone like awesome gti or C&R enterprises / TSR ...

Probably makes them too nose heavy though, IMO. Best thing about the mk2 was the handling.
