Well then there's no reason why he wouldn't be covered under insurance if insurers see it that way although I think you'd have an hard time persuading them seeing as it has most toll roads don't having timing gates and hair pins lol

Best advice to anyone planning to go is check your policy wording/schedule. I know mine specifically excludes the Ring.

Just seen this for the first time, f**k me thats some speed he is taking in to that corner, don't think many hot hatches would have been able to survive at that speed. Gutted for the bloke though, no one wants too see that happen.

How you do a lap in the Astra

And lol at some of the passenger comments!

I think everybody should do a lap of the ring at some point in their life. Its something I really want to do. Things like this do put you off though, its so expensive if you have a bump there and there is so few insurance companies that will cover you on the ring.

The hire cars seem a good idea untill you look at the €6000 excess on them.

best way is to buy a cheaper/ish car to take specifically to do it in, then sell on the return.

I feel bad for the guy, harsh mistake but what got me is you see him take two corners and he messed up both, he must of noticed he was over his limits when he was on the grass corner before, deffinately trying to be a hero, showing off and he's paid the price. Unlucky tho great car.

Expensive mistake :(

just makes me think that even tho it could happen to anyone, it reinforces the fact that saving some of your 'modding money' for track tuition could save you pennies in the long run and allow you to enjoy your car on track more :)

She'd get it in the actual face 2bh, looked a bit dog like on top gear but clearly made the most of her fame and been down boots for a bit of make up

At first I thought he tried to use the gravel as a run off rather than turn in an know he had no chance of making it, then realised after, that run off doesn't exist, only armco.

Sabine is more motorsport than you realise.Taken from wicki

She is the first woman to win a major 24h race, the 24 Hours Nürburgring, in 1996 and 1997, all with a BMW M3 entered and co-driven by local veteran Johannes Scheid. In 2006 Sabine and Klaus Abbelen drove the #97 Porsche 997 in the Nürburgring VLN endurance racing series, entered by Land Motorsport. They finished a strong third in the 24h 2008, beaten only by the factory-backed Manthey-entered winners of 2007 and 2006.

[edit] Nürburgring
Sabine came to mass public attention driving one of the two BMW M5 "Ring taxi" around the 20.8 km long race track in an entertaining manner.

According to her own estimates, Sabine has gone around the track more than 20,000 times, increasing by approximately 1200 per year. Her familiarity with the circuit earned her the nicknames "Queen of the Nürburgring" and "the fastest taxi driver in the world". She says her favourite parts of the track are Schwedenkreuz and Fuchsröhre.[3]

Claudia Hürtgen is her main rival, winning the championship in 2006, and scoring pole and victory in the third VLN race of 2008, with a BMW Z4.

Her company, Nürburgring-based Sabine Schmitz Motorsport, offers advanced driver training and a "Ring Taxi" service for passengers.

Fook me, would track insurance pay out for that (if he had it)?
erm no track day ins, am tryin to get hold of my insurance just to ask the question, i kno that they r guna laff at me tho n say unlucky!!!!
props for him owning up to it, imo its a touch more than a mistake, pretty much had a choice of playing it safe or pushing his limit... clearly went for the later, resulting it epic consequences. Iv never been on the ring, but i think that the risk you take in order to gain what you do from ''pushing it'' from a self satisfaction perspective isnt worth it. Although its easier to say when not in the situation, I guess the adrenaline from the experience easily gets the better of you.

Im not fully clear on this, but many policies clearly specify they do not cover the ring, despite it being a toll road. If his policy does not state this, will they pay out for all of the expenses incurred? Or is he going to lumbered with it all... as theres no doubt itl be an eye watering bill.
