Wales Rally GB pics

My first outing with the 7d, and a real baptism of fire. There's nothing like freezing your arse off trying to shoot fast moving rally cars in really bad light.

The camera is f*****g awesome, and allowed me to take pictures my old 350d wouldn't have stood a chance of getting.

I'd appreciate some constructive comments from the pro's on here. And some advice on the best way to deal with shooting in such poor light. All day the cars were in the dark under the trees, the sun never once hit the track. I think the pics get better as the day went on, as I did spend ages fiddling with settings to find a decent balance.

Anyway, the gallery is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/rodstreet/sets/72157625376592446/

And a few examples:

Probably one of my favourite from the day, the look in Kimi Raikkonens eyes is amazing.

There isn't much wrong with these at all Lee. Unfortunately the Exif data isn't attached to the images anymore, so i cant comment on the settings you have used. But shutter speed wise they look about right. The pans perhaps could be slowed down a bit to get rid of the messy backgrounds. The foreground clutter on the first few shots are a shame as they are otherwise excellent shots. Its not to everyones taste, but i often add some yellow w/balance to warm the photos up a bit, its not necessarily accurate to the day, but it tends to make them look better in my opinion. Also a slight lift in contrast/vibrance will make the RedBull's particularly look superb. If your interested i had a quick edit of one of your shots here : http://dunganick.smugmug.com/Other/Other/5173111907e22673dda7b-2/1090012236_gq7k4-L.jpg

Great photos, looks like your getting on with the camera very well indeed.

Cheers. I was shooting a high iso, usually around 2000 to compensate for the conditions, then around 250 f8. I agree about some tweaks to lift the colours. I just need to take the time to do it really.

Thanks again for the advise.

Great shots. Do you have a polarising filter? Being able to see through the screen in the first shot really makes it stand out from the others.

I didn't. I need to get one for that lens. I've only got one on my 24-105 which is a different size.
