Is it a daily? If it is dont do it.
How long do you plan to keep it? If its not long dont do it.
What do you use it for? If its involves commuting and motorway dont do it.
Do you plan to get different seats? If so then you may aswell.

As long as you've got buckets, just do a bit of spraying on the inside and it will look fine.

Just take the back seats out first and see how you go with it for a couple of days.

Once you've driven around for week without the back seats in you'll only ever put the back in
if you've got to take passengers.

When GDI existed they said to me they posted a set of back seats and they weighed 30 kilos!
That a fair old weight saving for 5 mins with a socket set.

im in 2 minds about this, but i wont be going far with stripping, seats out, rear carpet out, spare out etc, as i want some buckets... Im in 2 minds, buy fixed buckets and harnesses and lose the rear seats, or recliners and keeep the seats.. I have passengers every now and again so its kind of a pain :(

Fixed buckets any day, really don't like the reclining ones. OP seen pics of your car you need to strip it imo or at least the back seats.

When you say strip it, are you just going to do what most people do when they say they've stripped their car and remove just the rear seats?!

If you're going to do it, do it properly. As in all the roof lining, door cards etc...

if you include the whole rear seats I bet its not far off you know. The back rest part is quite heavy. The bench, not so much.

To be honest. If this is a daily, never going to see a track etc, don't bother.

makes me laugh when people strip out something that weighs fuk all

I only want to remove my back seats so i can fit harnesses, but i might just fit the harness' on track days, only take 5mins to remove the rear seats.

Why ?

Lets call the rear bench 20kg .. iso 10 .. spare wheel/tyre/jack is about 25 .. belts 2 each .. carpet and board 3 .. front seats > buckets + subframes saves about 30 kg or more .. that's nearly 100kg already without trying.

I weigh 65KG....

30 mins work to take out the equivilent of a passenger and a half (ish) is not bad going. Changing the exhaust and popping a decat in (as the OEM one weighs more than the moon) and the wheels to something like Ultraleggeras and you've lost the mass of 2 passengers (without going to the extreme of calculating the rotating mass savings on top of that) !

That's not bad going at all... less mass means less inertia.... better handling, economy, braking distances improved, and a higher P:W means faster acceleration.

Still laughin' ? :rasp:

I was refering more to removing roof lining and bits of plastic etc.

IMO its just so pointless, only reason for it would be the visual aspect if the inside was to be sprayed.

As said above, im refering to things that weigh fukall, and will not amount to anything. Saving 3kgs is rather silly, but like i said thats my opinion

You'd be surprised how heavy those 'minor' things are. I was shocked when I picked up the front carpet up!

And if you remove a load of little things, that adds up to a lot too.

Why do you think F1 designers try to remove as much weight from trivial things like the wing mirrors?

Because there is nothing in it between the F1 cars, so 1kg saving for them could be the differnce between 1st and 2nd

They all rock to a minimum weight level .. the only advantage is they can put the weight back in, exactly where they want it for balance/handling.

If you convince yourself that you need to strip it to be faster on a trackday, buy another car. Clio's aren't that quick, and will never be that quick. And that's not really the point of trackdays.

If it's going to be used as a roadcar, don't bother. You'll ruin it.

Pop the rear seats out for a trackday, makes it easier to lug about jacks/tools/wheels etc. Otherwise, just don't bother.

This, why would you strip a day to day car?

  Nothing at the mo :(
Mines a 172 cup and currently being used daily for getting to work

Start walking to work on monday as part of my diet so getting it stripped as il only be using it for the odd blast and trackdays :p

Stripping 100kg is equivalent to adding ~16 bhp on a cup.
How many of you have bought mods that give you an extra 16bhp? Are they pointless too?

Been there done that and put it all back in. Waste of time unless you're doing it properly IMO (IE loom reduction/grinding metal bars out of the way etc etc)

Ive taken the rear seats out because you can't use them with fixed buckets anyway, whats the point in carrying them around when there never used? Also means its alot easier to get track wheels/jacks/tools/assorted crap in the back.
