Warranty on Imports

Hey Guys,

The 172 Sport (02) 2002 Im picking up next week is an Import (UK Spec). Im being told by my dealer theres no warranty, no service as its on 22k!!! Is this right, do I have any legs to stand on, or any facts to suggest otherwise??

Any help would be very much appreciated!!

Thanks

I have a 2002 172 which came with three years warranty ~ two years standard Renault plus an extra year RAC warranty from my dealer/importer.

I think you will find that others will have a similar reply!

Unless yours has done more than the average mileage for the year ~ or something like that!

Always a tricky one this.

First of all you need to have a full service history from a renault dealer.

If you have this then from a legal aspect they have to honour the warrenty period.

They will always protest this as it is a way of convincing people to go and pay full price at a dealer, however this is not the case.

If they persist in being stubborn you can report them (the dealer) to the DTI for breaching their warrenty terms of contract. speak to any public legal information source and they should be able to confirm this.

Remember the car was built and sold in the EU and we are part of the EU.

Must have that full service though or your stuffed.

Its never going to be easy, so most people give imports a miss which is what they (Renault) and all other manufacturers want you to do

The problem I see with this car is that it has not been serviced at the correct intervals so the warranty is VOID IIRC ? Here is the letter from Renault regarding the 3 year warranty. As long as it is an EU import and it was registered after 17th October 2000 then it has 3 years warranty but the service problem may cause problems :

When I bought my 172 recently which was registered in March 2002, I phoned up Renault who confirmed it had 3 year warranty after I have themy the VIN and VRM. Do the same to find out if this car will have a warranty.

Hope this helps.
