Warranty Work

Just read that you dont have to take your car to a Renault Dealer which is good as the ones i have dealt with have been bad, Does anyone know of any specialists who will carry out warranty work, Im in West Yorks but dont mind travelling down M1 or over North West way

No you dont. They can no longer stipulate that a dealer carries out the work. I wont believe otherwise until someone puts up a link to the wording that says so.

People really have little understanding of their rights when it comes to cars, and an industry bloke said the other week on Watchdog that most of what is spouted or what they lead you to believe is actually b****cks. The case in question on the show was Discoverys I think, that needed totally new engines after as much as 7 years. Under consumer law they can stiull demand a new engine for free, even though its well out of warranty, as long as the fault can be proved to have come from the production line.

So in conclusion, you CAN go literally anywhere you like now to the work done. The only reason it wont change things much is that very often specialist tools and knowledge of a make is required. So obviously you wouldnt take your renault to vauxhall, even though theoretically you could.

However. Take it to a specialist that isnt a dealership and youre sorted.

So to answer your original question, I would whole-heartedly recommend Riverside Independent Renault Service of Stockport. If you can be arsed travelling all that way.

If you become a member (go on its onlt £5 for a year) you can have a look in the delaership thread for a good dealership.

In the north west Ic an recomend Speed 6 in Wrexham. Just keep well away from the Chester dealership as they wrote the rule book on poor customer satisfaction.

You need to take your car for warranty work to a dealer as Renault Uk will only pay the dealers for warranty work, Renault UK dont pay independant garages to fix cars under warranty.

All Renault warranty work is agreed at a fixed labour and parts price between the dealer and Reno UK.
Possible exceptions but not many.

But your more than free to take your car to any garage for servicing, repairs, brakes etc. (The stuff you would pay for anyway at a dealer).

So in otherwords get ya free work at the dealers and pay sensible prices at an independant for anything else.

Thats why at my place now we seem to get loads of warranty work, and the servicing etc. has died off in the last year or two.

Not true. That ended when block exemption was scrapped. Honest.

· Parts manufacturers can brand their own products, rather than car manufacturers buying the parts and putting on their own branding e.g. Ferodo rather than Ford.
· Independent distributors could sell their products as original spares or matching-quality spare parts
· Vehicle owners would be free to take their cars wherever they choose for warranty work and warranties would not be dependent on where the car was serviced
· Independent allmakes garages would have available to them, technical information from carmakers.

Breach of these regulations has already resulted in court action in 28 cases against car manufacturers and it is already illegal for car manufacturers to state in their manuals that vehicles should be taken to the main dealer for servicing"

As above mate. It also means, unfortunately, that dealerships are no longer required to carry out the work. So if a dealership manager felt like it they could just offer sales only!
