wat model clio

hiya guys, newbie poster so plz excuse my amateur knowledge on clios. Basically, Ive just come into a bit of a dry patch with my car, had to write off my previous car with a nasty crash to no fault of my own, and would like to invest into a clio for my next big project.

Im aware of the v6s, the 1.8 and 1.6 16valver and the williams, but im only 18 with a yrs no claims hitting in in october, so i need to keep things sensible for anopther year or so, so will only be investing into things i can look to swap over onto a higher spec model at a later date.

I have 17" wheels already in my shed for it, ive checked and their an exact fit. What model clio phase one i think, the old shape would be best for me to go for? Im going to be ripping the rear seats out immediately for a bit of a ice install with the ice i got hanging about, but Im after at leas a 1.4 and one with a nice interior and general look. What kinda problems will i have fitting 17"s as well, and how much can i lower it etc etc?

soz bout all the newbie ?s but i really need help on this, been reading up a lot heard a bit bout the 1.4rt. So any help will be much appreciated

cheers guys, cant wait to get my little clio now and get my teeth into modding it :)

go for the 1.4 rt mate! stick with that 4 a year ................

then get a VALVER !!

aint heard too much on the rsi, does neone know the insurance groups for them, i think the 1.8 16 valve is a group 12. AS I NEED A DEAD CHEAP CAR FOR A YEAR TO GET THE MAJOR MODSIN, Also is the cabin identical on the 1.4rt to the valvers etc, as if i build a ice install will my efforts be wasted?

i was 19 1yrs ncb and paid £1200 tpft on my old valver!!!!! its worth going for a valver more aggressive looking with performance to match!!! get a quote!!!!

but saying that the clio 1.4 rts are cool, theres some mint ones on the site, check powellys theres some pics up of it somewhere..........

liverpool victoria do reasonable quotes for modded cars app. they were sh*t for my cup but alot of people get good quotes from them

is the 1.6 16v the same group insurance as the 1.8 16v, and wat about the rsi? i would def eventually want a valver, and this car will stay in the familly neway so ill probabaly look to get a valver for my birthday, but is there any major difference towards the shell and cabin of a 1.4rt and a 1.8valver?

is it true the 1.4rt is a group 6 insurance or have i heard something which is untrue?

cheers for all the help guys, I like this site already, very helpful

1.4RT - ive seen some modded that look absoluteley mint, as good as, or if not, better, then some valvers ;o)

if not, go for a 1.8RSI, i know a lad whos got one, and on all accounts, they are "quick" - same as a valver, but without valver trim / seats / arches, etc. so im aware. might be wrong

The 1.4 RT is group 5, Ive got a ltd ed 97 1.4 Sport paying 1100 fully comp, first car, 18 and pass pluss, get quotes for a 1.8 16v and the Rsi, as for a 1.6 16v, they started in the MK2 Clios so prices start at 4K+

  Not a Clio

1.4 8v (RT) is 75 or 80bhp depending on year.

1.6 16v (mk2 only) is 110bhp

1.8 8v Rsi is 110bhp

1.8 16v is 137bhp

as for insurance groups it seems to depend upon the insurance company, if youre keeping it standard try tesco theyre usually good on standard cars.

Si.

Go for the 1.4RT mate thats what i did they arent too slow and arent too dear!!

then you can get a valver or somat later on
Vix ;)

cheers all, saw a nice one today, told my old man to go have a good look at it while i was in work and get the number for me to ring the owner in the night to give an offer. When i got home he told me that it looked lush from a distance and good condition generally, but as he walked around it has rear side damage, so he just looked at the price and walked away. £500 as well, i was gutted. HOW MUCH DO 1.4RTS NORMALLY GO FOR STANDARD, opps caps on, and in pretty good nick bout 70k mark mileage on no less than a j plate?

and group 5 thas awesome! :)

depends..

1991 - 1996 about £500 - £2.5k..

1996 - 1998 - £2.5k - £3.5k.

Also depends on condition etc.., special editions go for slightly more and so on.

I got my 1.4 S phase 3 for 3250, due to it having 19k on the clock and mint. Usualy they will go for 3k, whats your budget, if your big into modding it id get a phase 3 losts of life ahead of it... anything pre96 is going cheaper by the day..

my J-reg clio cost me £1300 i thought was a bit pricey at first, but then looked at it, was mint condition, only 50,000 gen miles, full serivce history, HPI check already done, 3 months warrenty. cant complain the only prob ive had with it so far is the automatic choke is playing up (well i hope its a automatic choke coz i cant find the choke  ) - too used to my old fiesta
