watch your tyres

went to go out at lunch time and one of my tyres was flat. was about to fill up with the foam filler when i thought better of it and borrowed a foot pump.

point of the story, when i went to get the puncture repaired the mechanic told me if id used the cans of foam then i would need a new tyre and not just a puncture repair. difference being £4.70 for the repair £97 ex vat for replacement exalto 2. also they would have to order the exalto in!

not often i make the right choice in a 50/50 sitation.

thought this may help someone at sometime.

hopefully this will highlight it to anyone who didnt know :D

massive urge to use the gunk though, that whole " i wanna try it!"

two days old and a puncture already, hope i havent picked myself a cursed car :devilish:

  Meg on pistonheads £6995

I hadnt thought about!

was thinking of taking 15" spare out and getting foam cos on 17s, but might not bother now

a 15 will do to get you home!

^^^^^ hahahaha (at dogmaul), was it like that scene in demolition man, where the car fills up with foam after an accident and solidifies?

wots the foam stuff for?

is that somethign which is exculsive to renaultsports???

Had same problem only I didnt know I had a puncture and ran around with a flat tyre for nearly a week (good job exaltos are excellent run-flat tyres!!!!) got puncure repaired and then went to halfords and bought a ciggie lighter tyre pump for £30 just in case, better than foam!!! Unless its a REAL git of a puncture when a new tyre is needed anyway.

As far as I know, the foam *CAN* be cleaned out from the tyre, but its an arse of a job and so most places dont wanna be doing that and therefore tell you that you need a new tyre....

Well that was my take on it anyways.... Im sure someone on here works for a tyre place and can give us the real low-down on this one.
