water bottle, top up when car hasnt moved or after its been driven?

is it best to top water up when the car hasnt been driven or after its driven? someone said when its hot it fills up so mite not be as low as it looks?
keep on top of mine regualy
does everyone top up with normal tap water or add a bit coolant aswell and how ofted do yours go down?
id say i top it up every couple of months just a little bit

Mine's not gone down hardly at all in the last year and a half.

top mine up about the same as yours - best to use coolant; water won't dilute it too much, although obv. will over time.

it expands with heat, so false reading unless engine's cold

what would be the reason why people have to top up more often than others?

Small leak somewhere or maybe a problem with the expansion tank cap etc
