Waterpump Questions

Morning!

I have a rather steady leak coming from what I think is the waterpump area on my ph2 172, so I need to get this sorted asap.

How difficult is this job to do at home?
How much should I be looking to pay to take it somewhere?
Is there a garage around Kent recommended for such a job?

Thanks in advance

Not a job for a novice imo.

Don't think there is any uk stock of renault genuine waterpumps at the moment either.

Change the aux belt (172 cup) or the aux kit on others at the same time.

Maybe £230 ish with new pump, aux kit and coolant. A specialist will soon tell you rough cost

i wouldn't say its difficult job on the driveway, i guess it depends on your confidence and selection of tools at home.

Would a non genuine pump be ok or are they not up to much? Do you have to touch the cambelt/timing when changing it? I'd rather take it somewhere and have it done properly as I'm not that familiar with working on the 172.

  A special one.
Id fit a new auxiliary belt kit when replacing the water pump.

No the cam belt doesn't get touched and id only fit a genuine Renault pump although they are not available at the moment.

Waterpump is £52.50 for the part, and I'd only go genuine Renault.

As Scott said, they shouldn't touch the cambelt but the aux belt needs doing. Make sure they do the aux belt the right way (it shouldn't rub on the cambelt cover after) as it's an easy mistake to make.

The waterpump is on back order at most Renault dealers at the moment, unfortunately.

Are you sure it's the waterpump leaking? Any photos may help.

Thanks for the replies. I'm not 100% on water pump as I haven't had the bumper etc off to have a good look but its certainly that area. The mot bloke last week also noted 'coolant leak from water pump area' on the advisories.

I may go up the Renault parts place tomorrow and ask about getting hold of a waterpump if genuine is a must.

  Many.
I wonder who makes the genuine pumps. TBH, with it leaking now, and renault not knowing when they are going to have them in, I'd fit a good quality pattern part.

Is it a cup?

The problem with it is theres a severe lack of space, aux belt isnt that bad to take off/put back on.

why don't you just find out who manufactures the waterpumps for renault and go direct? save yourself a tidy sum in the process too no doubt, and you won't have to wait for renault to get the thumb out. i recently ordered one from renault for a 172 cup i done the aux and pump on last week and i ordered it on the tuesday and it was picked up at renault on the wednesday morning.

I have a unipart one on my car been on nearly 3 years now. I had it from renault wolverhampton when they use to stock both unipart and genuine.
