Web Site Costs

If there is anyone that could help me, I would be very grateful.

What doe sit cost to set up a web site. The site has to look VERY professional and quite arty.

What is the average monthly cost of running a website? The site would include a forum and a shop, and would have quite a few pictures etc on it.

If there are any links to prices, that would be vvv.helpful.

This is only for a uni project, need to look at setting up a website as part of a business.

Thanks a lot in advance.

To be honest mate, if it's for a uni project and you don't have a lot to invset, you'd be better off looking at givinng it to a fellow student, it will cost you a lot anywhere else (especially a shop).

Forum will cost you nothing if you go for phpBB (excluding setup costs from whoever does it) or £150 ish for a vBulletin forum (what Cliosport runs on) which I prefer by a mile (as an admin).

It's for a uni project, but for setting up a small business, so they have to be realistic. We can't say we'd just get someone to do, have to produce detailed costs etc, so that they can go on a profit and loss account and be taken into account when doing Business analysis.

Total b****cks really, lol.

lol.

Ok, do you mean you just need to simulate the startup of a business ?? i.e. get quotes for a website or do you actually have to go ahead with it ??

For the former, fair enough, latter, get someone to do it and just have them invoice you with what's what. Only difference is it'll be cheaper.

Former mate.

Have had to take an idea from concept generation all the way through to launch of the product, presenting it to a board of people including local "business leaders", lol.

yes to initial payment for cart, we dont really do forums. I could prob have a go, as i'm proficient in programming, but i would want more pay

Sorry to be a hassle mate, but how much more? Just more on the initial start up costs? Or more on the monthly?

shouldnt be any monthly costs after its set up, it should run on a CMS system so you look after it yourself

its just 40 a month to look after, where we do updates etc for you, the intial start up cost for the cart would be decided on how many diff items you wanted to sell

there is no cms system, because some people down here are too thick to understand what to do with it, and it is easier for them and for us if we do the updates ourselves

yeh that is cheap, it costs 40 quid for a tiny advert per week in the local paper, something like 300 for half a page, in colour. for one week

yeah i know, but if it was built with a CMS system there would be no need to have a monthly charge then and the user just updates the webiste himself

but then we wouldnt make any money and i would not have a job. also we would have to train people to do it, and they still wont have a clue and be ringing us all the time for help which is annoying.

i dont know why im going on about it anyway, at end of the day it pays for my car!

lol, but why wouldnt they have a clue, a good CMS system is easy to use, i put CMS systems on my sites, give em to the client and they are happy bunnys and go off and updated their sites with no bother

So how much would you charge as a one off set up fee, including an online shop and forum?

like i said most of them are thick as ...

some of them do have them, because they have mad complex sites, and they are happy. but a lot of people down here, if they had them, would not use them and still ask us to do everything for them. this campaign has worked out quite well so far.

If it was a basic and I mean basic forum you'd be looking at a bit of money, but really you're better going off a third party products. There's so many decent ones around and with a decent API, it's easily integrated with a website.

My company's CMS is licensed, so has a per-month cost regardless of any updates.
