weight effect on mpg

  monaco 172
Looked at my mpg calculator today and was expecting the usual 29mpg and to my surprise it said 37.

I took my sub out to go on holiday a few weeks back and haven't put it back in yet.

The sub in its box weighs about 30kg, is that enough weight to have a dramatic effect on mpg or is it more likely my driving style has changed over the last few weeks? My usual route to work and back has not changed at all.

Have you actually weighed your sub at 30kg ? That's bloody heavy.

Will not make more than 1-2% on fuel economy though...

Yeh the driver weights about 18kg and the 2.5cuft box is about 12kg.

Then the 2kw amp is about 10kg but I haven't took that out yet.

I doubt its the extra load the sub puts on the alternator as I don't have it on loud at all anymore so it will be drawing minimal current.

Well 30kg is only like half a man so I didn't think it would have a massive effect

Dr Rollo, does that comment mean I'm an idiot for thinking 30kg will affect mpg or that 30kg is a massive amount to carry in the boot?

Ah right, I must have just been driving like a granny since I took the sub out and not noticed it lol

A person weighs 80kg, so imagine you had 3 passengers!

I assume you went on a long trip in the car if you took it out for the holiday. Long runs at a decent, steady speed will always increase the mpg over sitting in traffic commuting.
