Went to Kwik Fit......

  BMW F31
on Thursday to get tracking done as they are the only decent local place that has laser tracking.

the kwik fit near me are actually quite good tbh.

anyway, got the car back, and the steering is creaking and making a god awful noise which it wasnt before the tracking was done.

they sheared a bolt of the track rod end when trying to do the tracking so they have now replaced it free of charge (it was only 4 months old!!) but its still wandering all over the road.

ami right in thinking its probably the rack? they are getting new rack ends? today or tomorrow, but as it wasn't doing it before it went in, do you think it should be either heavily discounted or free?

the only thing i have to go on is it had the tracking done 3/4 months ago and it was fine then it has it done last week and they have damaged it.

cheers for the useful input, does that count as an infraction? ;) :p

I usually take my car to a mechanic friend, but Kwik fit are the only place that has laser tracking near me.

I think the ball joints on the track rods might have been damaged when they were trying to drill the bolt out of the N/S track rod end tbh.

kwik fit is full of people with only level 1 qualifiactions in motor mechanics, dumb as s**t, and there work is shocking, ive seen some seriously shoddy work from quick fit.

What bolts did they shear/were they drilling?

Track rod ends don't involve any bolts to drill out.

that is unfair to put everyone with a level one in mv inn the dumb sh!t box, gotta do level one to get to level two and then three

i pride my self on tight working tollerences and first class repairs/mods, admittidly i am lacking in experence and still have alot to learn but i sure as hell aint dumb, dyslexic maybe but

but i agree that "some" are total puddings when it comes to common sence and working on cars :rasp:

the bolt that holds the track rod end on to the track rod.

where its threaded onto the track rod, it then has a parallel bolt to keep it in place.

and yes agreed most are dumb as s**t at kwik fit, but there is one guy at my local one, who coincidentally owns a meggy 225 cup, who actually knows what he's doing and tbh i'm only happy with him working on my car.

taken it down there this morning and there gonna ring me when they've sorted it.
