What’s this Is it important

Hello,

This morning on my way back from Manchester I hit a rather large pot hole. I saw it coming so was going very slowly, but couldnt avoid it totally as I was on a single track road. The jolt caused this to pop out into the passenger footwell:

Everything seemed to work okay so I carried on home. Ive just had a quick look and found where it came from:

As you can see its popped out of the socket nearest the outside of the car by the door. Ive just put it back in and as before everything is fine, but what I was wondering is, what is it and what does it do? I assume its a relay, but what does that one control, or is it just a spare as they do with fuses as it didnt appear to have a proper socket and is the other way round to the rest of them?

I cant get the number off it now. Its back in the car.

They all looked the same to me under there. Its the one that goes in the socket nearest the door.

Notice how the pins are bent, I wonder how that happened?

pins do look f**ked, and to an untrained eye all relays will look the same just like a fuse will do no matter what the power (barring the colour of course) im trying to remember if in the hand book or panel for the fusebox it has a diagram for the relays. you could look in the handbook or pop the cover off the passenger side end of the dash lee.

I had the side off the dash at the weekend as the headlamp washers arent working. In fact its booked in on the 2nd of December to have those done, the alarm and knocking from the front for the 3rd time, and the exhaust centre section is doing the usual!!

Ill go have a look in the handbook.

I tried all those things T3ZJ. I couldnt find anything that didnt work.

Nothing in the manual. Ill just add it to the list of things for them to check when it goes in.

Im tempted to ask them to look at the dash rattles, but to be honest I want the car back within 24 hours as I dont want to do Manchester in a courtesy car.

Yup. Im thinking by the way it went back in so easily that it could be a spare. Ill have a proper look if it ever stops raining.

This happened to me in my 182....someone with big feet jarred it loose in the passenger footwell...



i didnt realise this however, and pannicked when my lights didnt work....thought i needed new xenons etc....



Did you find out wot it was for..????

Just joined this place, its a good site.

Had my clio about 4months now from new. I lived with the rattling for about a month before taking it back to renault. It was well annoying. I had no idea where it was comming from though till the guy from renault told me. Got it booked in in a few weeks to get a replacement part, under warranty so no problem really, just a pain considering ive hardly done any mileage and somethings broke already.

Sorted, I know what it is.

A while ago the headlamp washers stopped working. Its the relay for those. It must have been hanging lose for a while. Ive just put the car in the garage out of the snow and tried them out. They now work. Thats one less job for the garage to do.

i just put two and two together, you said up there ^^ your headlamp washers werent working and yet heres a spare elecrical thingy!! coincidence lol.

oh well...there goes this years genius moment!!

strange you say that mine does it to i just turn my music up its very annoying though
