What amp and sub/s for 700 quid

Im new here so I just like to say hi

Anyway, im after something with good great SQ. I want a mono amp as they have greater effeciency. Ive been looking at the PG QX900.1 powering 2 10" vibe CBR100, what dya think?

Also, if I was to get that amp or something similar would the standard battery/alternater power the amp without any problems?

thanks.

Hello mate,

Dont know the nodels you mentioned but if it were me (and Im going to keep this purposefully vague in terms of exact models), I think Id go for a Genesis amp (beautiful, British made, great SQ).

The subs are trickier - 2x10 or 1x12. Ive always had a single 12, in a Beetle, an R5 and now my Clio, and theyve always sounded great. Ive had Earthquake (good spl), Rockford and now JL (both great SQ and loud).

If I were to spend what you are, whether it was 2x10 or a 12, Id check out JL, Boston, and Rockford.

GOod luck what ever - youve got a lot of choice in that price range.

Hi Mate

The amp you have gone for is a good choice. They have good SQ but will only run down to 2ohm. If youre after SQ then that shouldnt be a problem. Personally i would go for either that amp or a Rockford 500.1 They are stable down to 1ohm and have very good SQ...and its cheaper!!!

Regarding the subs i would stick with 10s if you like fast moving music. If you like low bass then 12s would possibly be better. Vibe make good subs but there are better out there for the same cash. Some good makes of SQ subs are Rockford Fosgate and Kicker and would fall into your budget.

2x Rockford HE2 3210 subs - £290
1x Rocklford 500.1 Mono Amp - £349

Total with cables and sub box - £699 (estimated price)

The amp would run at 1ohm in this congiuration so would be producing its optimal output of about 800Watts RMS

If you like, you can have a browse at my website to check out some prices and specs. The address is:

Thanks for the help.

Ive decided to get the JL 10w3-D2 powered by the RF 500.1 (I can upgrade to an extra sub at a later date)

As the sub is dual 2 ohms will the amp power the sub OK if I was to wire it parralel-series yo get 1 ohm?

dunno if any of u guys have heard of them but Ground Zero kit soudns absolutely amazing!

If u need to hear the kit (which I would greately recommend) the best person to talk to is Manjit at TFG in Newcastle, their number is 0191 2632445.

BTW they are also one of the cheapest places to buy ICE I have ever found!

Ground Zero kit is good for the price of their stuff. Im thinking of setting up a page of ground zero equipment on the website...watch this space.

regarding the 500.1. It will easily go down to 1ohm as long as you use 4 guage cable.

Just out of interest, how much are you paying for the 500.1 and where are you getting it from.

My experiences with TFG are that they are fine if you live close by them so you can keep track of what they are doing with your order but if you buy from them by mail order then there can be problems.

Hi

One of my mates from the CAD forum tells me you might be after a couple of batteries.

Just in case you were interested i have a couple of brand new Optima Red Top Batteries going for £100 each which would power your proposed system very nicely. Also i notice you live in Bedworth which is only down the road from us so you could save on delivery charges.

Let me know if youre interested

Thanks

Are you the same guy as soundzsogood?

I still havent decided on my system yet. I got an offer on a JL 500/1.

I mentioned the batteries as a joke coz it was a big amp

Looks like ill have to check my prices on the amp if they have gone that cheap.

soundzsogood is my mate yeah. Im not the same person though. He lives a couple of streets away from me and informs me of any potential business in the area...mainly on the boot build side of things though. I give him comission on the sale if it goes through.

Ive got a JL Audio W3 12" sub, and a Phoenex Gold 300.2 just solely powering it.

If I had £700 to spend Id try and buy 2 of the subs Ive got and a beefy amp that can run 600w RMS to power them both.
