What are coilovers

What are coilovers and what do they do for your car. Don't mean to be thick!

Coilovers are a suspension kit that allow you to adjust the ride height of a car rather than having a fixed ride height. Basically they are normally a higher quality set up than the std dampers, some have helper springs (a second smaller spring that is a different rate to the main spring) and some kits have adjustible dampers to set the ride characteristics.

Also find that coilovers can come as a unit where the strut is actually bound to the coil. Although you can get seperate components.
