That panel is where the part of the cruise control buttons sit on the 182's - so that would be my guess.

IIRC 172's before 52 plate didn't have ESP.

Theres 3 spare connecters but I only have to dash dimmer on the panel and they carnt be for cruise as its not on the steering wheel, how can I tell what there for?

Does the car have xenon headlights?

There's 4 possible connections on that panel usually. Dash dimmer, headlight adjuster, cruise control and ESP, but xenons won't have the headlight adjuster as they're auto adjusting. Seems strange that the connection would be there though.

Yeah it has xenons, just confused me as it seems the connections are there but no sign of cruise, esp on the car as I thought the panel could of been swaped but ifso there should be signs of the cruise etc been on the car as the connections are there

Pretty much all 172's have those plugs.

Looms are prepped for ESP, Cruise and manual headlight adjustement.

To fit Cruise you only need that switch, squib and steering wheel buttons (plus airbag, or cut it). ESP is more involved though.

It's normal. Think about it.

Renault could install different looms into every single Clio based on every single combination of optional extras for a significant increase in manufacturing complexity and cost, or they could fit the same loom to every car and be done with it.

As for why is there an ESP plug on a car manufactured before ESP was released on Clios? Well it's hardly out of this world to imagine they might've planned to do it sooner or maybe it was cheaper to have "full fat" looms for every car rather than change loom halfway through production when they'd finally sorted out ESP for release.
