what basic mods to start with

Hi all gurus,

Just got a used mk1 172 recently and had been enjoying the ride so far. I am from Singapore and cars are extremely expensive, so considering I had already paid a fortune (as compared to you guys :> ) for the car, I am wondering what basic mods to start with that would enable me to have a better drive and yet not burn a deeper hole in me pocket.

Cheers

How do u mean basic?

I think an up rated air filter change or IK will be nice. Will give you a nice moaning sound from the bonnet when you floor it.

Or less basic could be a gear knob change, but that will give you a different effect ;)

Err... well, i did thought of the basic mods as of air filter, exhaust, rotors + pads, shocks + springs and prob a chip... :)

The considerations for me basically would be pricing and the effects (is it worth it?)

For air filters, taking into consideration of the climate here... extremely humid, am wondering if a drop-in would be better than an induction kit.

As for exhaust, am thinking of changing just the rear box (Supersprint) for starters.

Also, I understand that the 2 said mods would affect my low end torque and to rectify that I need to touch on chipping as well... any advice?

For example, I did the following when I bought mine....

1. - Springs, Eibach Pro kit

2. - Exhaust - Magnex full system

3. - Filter - Pipercross

4. - Strut Brace - K-tec Racing

5. - Pads - Tarox fast road

6. - Wheels - Mille Miglia HT3 7x17"

plus the usual bulbs & stuff. Not saying these are the best things you can do - lots of others on here have fitted different components, but the car is much improved over standard.

telford mike, how much did the eibach springs lower your car? i know ktec website says -35mm but when i phoned them to order them they said that they dont lower it that much, more like 15mm, so i bought chassis dynamics springs from them instead which have lowered the car but not by 35mm, more like 20mm at front and 10mm at rear

telford mike, did you use the stock shocks with the uprated eibach springs?

yeepcup, from what I understand, the eibach springs would lower the car by 30mm... correct me if Im wrong.

Unfortunately, there aint many clio sport back here, in fact theres only about 3 mk1 172 I think... have to ship in the mod parts and thats unnecessary cost for me :( ... also, due to certain regulations, only the Supersprint and Remus exhaust system are approved here. What do you guys think about these 2 brands anyways?
